So just wondering if there is anything else one can use to case with. Believe it or not, even if I wanted to (and I do) I cannot vermiculite where I live. None of the nurseries or garden centers here have it strangely enough... (I live in Switzerland). Also the coir I used to have for my weed, but I finished that big bag and bought something else the next time. So if I wanted to get coir I'd have to go get it in a 50liter bag, which is kinda overkill consdering how much of it I actually need.
So what I was wondering is if there are any substitutes for this stuff? I have a bag of what is basically just potting soil, which consists of 70% peat and the rest is probably regular soil. Would this work at all? Maybe if I mixed it with a bit of long fibred sphagnum moss to make it a bit airier?
Otherwise I'm gonna have to go with no casing layer which is technically an option cause I'm doing a monotub and I hear they work quite well un-cased. Nonetheless though, I'd really like to add a casing layer for the extra mositure content...

Just go to the nursery and buy the fluffiest potting soil you can find. Most have a lot of peat, and either vermiculite or perlite for looseness. It will work nearly as well. Be sure to pasteurize. RR

Jiffy Mix works also. Most soilless mixes work alright just make sure there's no added fertilizer.
