There's a nice 5-gallon fermentation container on sale on ebay that I could buy and have shipped for under $15... but I've got no damn money!
I want to bid on it, but I can't really afford it right now...
Should I bid on it anyways and pay when I can?

If I were to do that, and then win the bid on it, then I would essentially be disclosing my identity on the shroomery.
That's a no-no

Indeed!
Of course 5 gallons of sweet mead would need up to 25 pounds of honey... but oh well.

I'm probably going to buy it.
At the least I'll just toss some granulated sugar and karo into it and brew up some cheap ethanol to be nicely distilled for getting shitfaced

If it's glass get it you will need a glass one for mead. If not you can find you one form a local home brewing store for less.

It's plastic, but it's made for fermentation, I don't see how it won't work for mead.
Glass is easier to clean and sterilize and such, but I'll just be thankful to finally have a fermenter. My current one is a freaking milk carton that I cleaned up and improvised an airlock for.
Besides, if I want a dry mead, I can just toss 15 pounds of honey into it, add some boiling water, and pitch yeast into it once it cools. A month or so later, viola... 5 whole freaking gallons of mead ready to be racked and aged.

I'm currently making Metheglin, which is Mead that has had spices added to it.
Mead is an alcohol made by mixing honey with water and then fermenting it. It's sometimes called a wine, but technically it is it's own form of alcohol.
Mead was a very popular drink among the vikings... and I figure anything that men would drink while invading and pillaging is definitely an alcohol that I'd be proud to brew
