In the interest of mushroom porn...

... and continuing the recent and nice tradition of sharing woodsy hunting pics...
Here are some photos from a recent hunting expidition. Sorry, no actives. I was hoping to find caerulipes but I think the area I searched may have been too flat. But I did find some pretty cool looking fungi, as well as a super-friendly Kingsnake, a shy Ringneck snake, and a beautiful Indigo Bunting. I also got to watch my dogs swim in a creek which is a wonderful sight on a spring day.
And now here it is, the shroom porn:
These are some kind of Pholiota. I think Pholiota aurivella which is characteristically kind of slimy, which this one was.

I saw this little Ring Neck snake. Very cool tiny snake with a really bright yellow ring around its neck and a yellow belly.

I stopped at a deep spot in the creek for my dogs to get a swim.

I found this little cluster of Mycenas, like a tiny boquet of flowers.

I found this Smurferific Russula popping up. I love how its red cap blends with the pink in the quartz rock behind it.

I watched this Kingsnake dig a hole into some mud and pull out somebody's egg and eat it. That's why there's mud on his head. After that he was the chillest snake I've ever met. I picked him up and he was so docile and curious, wrapping himself around my camera and, at one point, around both of my wrists. It was like snake-handcuffs.

Found some tasty looking Agaricus, but as a rule I don't eat these from the wild.

Saw this Indigo Bunting getting a drink. Looked like a tiny synthetic metallic robot bird

Finally I came upon this magnificent Coral. Haven't been able to ID it yet, any suggestions?

This is perfect. I'm lucky to have seen a ring neck snake befor. It was very easy to compare the snake that I remembered to the one that you photographed. I'm not into porn although I have to admit that some chicks doing it in a bed of full of mushrooms would be cool. Also I think the picture with the blue jay looks like shit. Sorry.

Hey man - you should never handle a snake after it has eaten. It's not good for the snake.

Ngalyod is right, it is not good for snakes to handle them after they eat. I was gentle though, and just picked him up to move him away from a road.
Thanks for the comments all. Anyone have any guesses for that coral fungus?

Nice pics xmush. Eastern kings are a real treat to stumble across in the woods. Not sure what DaveTX is talking about as ring neck snakes are easy to find and any image of an indigo bunting is a nice pic. I practically live in the woods and I have never seen one. Thanks for sharing. I have found that coral many times b4 in the Raleigh area. The purple variety is common around here as well. Wish I could tell you the species.

Thanks appalachian. I agree, seeing an indigo bunting is always fun - blurry picture or not. DaveTX never has anything constructive or nice to say about anyone's posts.
These pics were all taken in the Raleigh area too.

Had some trouble getting all of the pics to load right. Anyway, I agree, the first one does look like a Pholiota. That coral looks like a Ramaria species.. that's a close as I can come anyway. Not much experience identifying coral. http://images.google.com/images?q=ramaria+coral&hl=en

I agree with the Ramaria ID Eris, thanks for the link. Sorry the pics wouldn't all load for you. Are they too big? I used imageshack for the first time for this post.

Kind of big.. I think it's my computer though. This one that I'm on temporarily is slow - my main computer is down.
Nice photo collection though.

The photos are great, including the snakes.
As for identifying your coral, I think you guys are right with Ramaria, although we technically need to do a chemical spot test even to verify that. To get it to species we need a microscope and some chemicals. They're among the toughest mushrooms to identify to species.
Happy mushrooming!
