Hpoo jars
    #5658389 - 05/21/06 10:16 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Ive search the post and have only only been able to find stuff about spawning to poop.
anyway I wanted to make some hpoo jars. i know spores do not germinate well on hpoo, so ill mix with 50/50 straw/hpoo. and put into jars.

can i use fresh hpoo for jars? since you cook them and not pasturize. will it kill all the nasties so you can make frsh hpoo jars?
also, whats is a good spawn ratio for pints of brf to pints of hpoo. i was thinking 1pint cake to 3pints hpoo.??

thanks for your help!

fresh hpoo has ammonia in it from the animals urine. Leech the poo in the rain and let it dry. In general, the older the better.

Properly aged and hydrated Hpoo will do well in jars. It will stick to the sides of the jar so you can't see inside, but the mycelium will eat it. The poo on the sides will become lighter color as it colonizes and the mycelium eats the nutrients. you can shake it just like grain. It forms little balls of poo. It takes longer than grain.

shymanta, assuming you got some primo aged horse dookie, and make 50/50 poo/straw like mushboy was planning, can you inject spores direclty into em?

Probably. But from what I understand spores don't do well on just poo. However, if its sterile, I don't see why spore won't work. Agar or spawn traditionally works best, though.

5 cups vermiculite
3 cups manure
10 tblspns BRF
1.5 - 1.75 cups water
(makes 10-12 half pints)

works GREAT for pans, i see no reason it wouldnt with cubes

I just found shicht loads of horse shicht in a local field. Im just drying it out at the moment. That looks like a pretty decent recipe ChromeCrow but sounds rather dry compared to the normal PF substrate??A question i have is, would LC colonise hpoo substrate in a  respectable time compared to BRF and also, would that substrate need to be pasturised or sterilized?

Just made up some LC by extracting tiny bits of mycelium from my myco farm bag with a syringe. Paras of contaminating it
I used the honeywater tek and added a tiny drop of H2O2.

Well iv got my hpoo dried out and hoping to make up these jars soon.
Have a few questions needing answered b4 this grow:
(1) How would i pasturize this substrate? Would i just put all ingredients into the jars and put the jars in 180* water for a couple of hours?
(2) What (if any) sterile measures need to be taken?
(3) How far in advance could i prepare these jars?

You'll have much better success if you'll spawn the spores to grains or brf, then when that's fully colonized, break it up and spawn to the manure. I've spawned spores directly to coffee grinds with limited success, but attempts at inoculating manure with spores have always failed. Good luck.

don't be afraid to put ur hands in the poo. i think all poo is different so you never know how much water to put in. add water until you squeeze a clump with ur hand and it drizzles between fingers

lol yea
Well i wasent going to inoculate the jars witha spore syringe, I have a jar of LC growing justnow so i'll be inoculating with that.
So these jars should just be pasturized, yea?

I came across the link where that manure recipie came from and says the following:

5 cups vermiculite
3 cups manure
10 tblspns BRF
1.5 - 1.75 cups water

Fill your canning jars, sterilize for an hour in a pressure cooker and inoculate via the PF tek method. Once your substrate is fully colonized, crumble and case with 50/50+.
Since the manure is already added to your substrate, there is no need to spawn with manure and risk contamination in this step.
Just place your cased substrate into your humidity chamber and watch them grow!

This says to sterilize, are you sure pasturizing would be ok when using LC?
Or would a 90:10 poo/verm mix be better without sterilization?
