when i inoculate my substrate, will it colonize in my house which is about 70 deg. F give or take a few. almost everywhere i read the temp is different. i know it should be fine but i am new at this. i also have a heating pad but for people and it gets real warm and is sorta sketchy as far as age goes, would it be smaart to use this, and if i do, does it need to be on all the time?

You need to keep it in the mid 80's during incubation or it will take forever. Mid 70's is for fruiting.

dont use a heat pad, it will dry out your jars. it will colonize at 70F
it will just be slow. incubators are easy, just get a bottle, a cooler,
and a fish tank heater. fill the bottle with water, insert fish tank
heater and set to about 82F.

about how long will it take without a heat source and does it need to be consistent? my upstairs gets pretty warm during the day but cools down at night.
