one again-paitence has payed off-i have these lipas and these pesas-i noticed the lipa pinning yesterday from the bottom of the cake-i left it alone until this morning, and then checked it and pins have came from the verm/brf layer-so i layed it on its side-i have counted 34 pins in a clump of juicy pins-no fuzz on the heads-dark brown i have 4 lipa cakes all together and another has started pinning also from the bottom- my question is this-if a pin comes on the flat bottom-will it grow out from underneath the cake?or do u have to flip the cake-because i have pins on the other cake on top as well as bottom(mostly bottom) the pesas have not yet started pinning-but look very healthy-very dense- so what should i do about these bottom pins? peace and may the force be with you always -Lee Free Spore Ring Free Spore Ring Free Spore Ring Free Spore Ring Free Spore Ring Free Spore Ring

What are the cakes resting on. If they are on perilite or vermaculite it seems that they are pinning there because of the extra moisture. If that is so I would read up on the double ended casing tek. Where verm. is placed on both sides of the cake and saturated with water. Hope I helped a little

they are sitting on squares of foil-i aslo have some pins on the top though-i have a digital hygro on the bottom with the cakes and one taped underneath the lid(a clear lid) i did this because i thought the same, that there was more moisture on the bottom-but both read 90+ im not really worried about it-i have counted 30 FAT heads so far on 1 1/2 pint rye cake-well i say heads actually their the size of a pencil eraser and about 1/2 inch long-:0) since i am a newbie i am very pleased- any other suggestions?

if you propped up one end of the casing, then both side would be exposed to open air, and thus pins could grow freely and unhindered from both side at the same time. i did this before, and it works.
