3-4 days is about average for colinization to start.

So why are you asking then? If you know that 3-4 days is average obviously your not going to see any growth in 27hrs. If you keep looking at your jars every hour its going to seem like months before it is fully colonized!

If you did everything right you should start to see signs of growth sometime around 60 hours or after that.

yes I know what you mean. The hardest thing for a newbie like us to learn about this hobby is it takes the patience of jobe to do it. I have watched shrooms grow from spore til end almost like one of those national geographic tv shows where they show flowers and animals and shit grow in ultra slow motion LOL.... i ve handled my bags so much they probably got my finger prints imbedded in them but it dont make shrooms grow a bit faster..LOL

i know it's hard but just forget about them and come back in a week. you should have plenty of growth by then and less handling means less chance of contamination.

haha dude, you really need to smoke a few bowls, or go on a vacation or get your mind off of them. Depending on your temps, (if they are inbetween 82-86F) you should start seein growth within 3-7 days. There are many variables as well. The age of the spores, the spore race you are growing, and how well you prepared your substrate. Just let them be for a while. Also, jars start growing at different times, so you might just be checking the jar thats a little behind..lol Dont worry, you'll see growth. Just give em time! What strain are you growing? If its B+, it will be probably 5 days until you see somethin. Its not a very fast colonizer. Good luck, and take some prozac

Dude, close the lid and don't let yourself look for three more days. I know it's hard but focus your energy on reading posts so you'll know what to do when they're ready. Even if you have no patience, this hobby will teach it to you. Good luck.

It took 2 weeks for my puerto ricans to show signs of growth. I threw half the jars away and forgot the rest and then wam, the mycelium was colonizing like crazy, too bad half the jars were thrown away.

Why did you throw your jars away just clean them... even if they're bad throw them in a waste pile in your yard add wood chips water and potting soil. I did that two months ago and i have a white mat covering part of my flower bed now. To the 27 hr guy Smoke weed. take some Soma . Shoot some thorazine and chill. If you want faster colonization use Honeywater Tek.

Just a heads up. I too was playing the open it and handle the jars game everyday and due to lack of cleanliness on my part I contamed the outside of one jar and it started growing green moss like mold on the outside. I am using Micron Magick filter disks and their plastic lids. I tossed the jar to be safe but it had already gotten on some others but wasn?t visible yet. I cracked the lids to dump the Co2 and let the green menace in! I have 3 of 12 jars left. I will ALLWAYS wash my hands with antibacterial soap and spray Lysol in the air and in the chamber before handling the jars! Yes I had peroxide mixed with water 10 to 1 in the chamber. Do what you want but that?s my story and I'm sticking to it! Six

dude i feel for ya.. I've had some jars going for about two weeks and not one is fully col. yet. Two have been lost, and two more have some yellow stuff in em. It's to cold in the room i think, so therefor the slow growing. And the contams prolly happens becouse i handled the jars twice a day.

hmmmmmmm ive lost 2 to green mold, and it looks like 2 more have the light yellow stuff in em, i thought maybe it was from the honey i put in the water when i made the substrate. any idea what it is?

Well another thing that didn?t help me was when I put the BRF-VERM substrate in the jars I didn?t lightly tap the bottom of the jar on a hard surface, I just lightly shook it side to side to level it out then topped it off with dry VERM. That left the substrate too loose so when I flipped the jars it packed the substrate a bit and let the dry VERM barrier go down the side of the jar instead of staying on top and doing its job. What?s that smell??? Yep it? a NEWBIE!! I wont let the same dog bite me twice! For my next batch of jars (I haven?t inoculated yet) I filled them to the top with the loose substrate then lightly tapped them on the counter till it was settled, about 1/2" from the top, then topped them off with dry VERM and pressure cooked. As a side note it was suggested that I try to cut off the green area and see if I can save the cake. I did that in the most sterile way I could and put the cake in the terrarium about 24hrs ago. It?s growing bright white, fluffy fuzzy stuff where the exposed lightly colonized cake got cut. Sound ok? Keeping my fingers crossed! Six

hey, i am by now means even experienced in this field, but i have read that a pale yellow inside your jar is ok. i believe it was attributed to slight condensation in the jar, but harmless non the less. but dont take my word for it "nevermind whats been sellin, its what your buyin" fugazi

> When the cake is most likely to get contamination? The cake can easily contaminate any time there is visible food (anywhere that the mycelium isn't) for contamination to grow on. Let the jar sit a few more days after 100% colonization to ensure the centers of the cake that you cannot see are done as well. The cake can still contaminate even if the entire thing is covered in mycelium, though it is less likely to happen.

"Is it good idea to mix peroxide in the water" YES "do I necessarily need perlite?" If you are going to be doing cakes......yes perilite is a good idea. Or you will be spraying the inside of your fruiting chamber more often. You should be able to find some. Perilite is easier to find than Verm....in most cases. 1" to 2" of damp perilite will give you 98 to 100% humidity. Good luck !!!

Wow, you got 9% h2o2? Most of the over-the-counter stuff around here is only 3% or the non-bleach bleach stuff is 15%. I have only seen 9% come in hair coloring kits. I eyeball it, but I try to get about 10% h2o2 (at 3% concentration) to 90% distilled h20 by volume. Donno what others use... > About how many dry grams does a single PF-style cake produce? It really depends on the genetics of the shrooms, the terrarium setup, PH, RH, temperature, number of flushes, etc etc etc.

wow, if you are this impatient the whole time, you are going to mess something up...just remember in the later stages that you need to keep temps, fresh air, and humidity........dont mist, dunk, case, re-case, re-case again if you are not getting the results you want....JUST WAIT

I don't know why you would want it but any hydroponics store carries 50% H2O2. Usually called superoxy or something like that. I can't remember how much it costs, but it might be cheaper than drug store stuff in the long run: if you could ever use a gallon of 50%!. Don't get it on your skin cause it will eat it away. Cheers
