help in tennessee
    #5654294 - 05/20/06 07:20 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

These keep popping up in my yard after every rainfall. They form a big ring around a stump that is underground. Not sure on what kind of tree.

I live 30 miles north of Nashville, Tenn.

They first started appearing in April and continue to get more after it rains heavily.

Im very new to mushrooms and not sure how to "bruise" them to help with a id.

After a day or so they wilt down and have a sort of leopard print to them. They reach about 3" in length and maybe 2" across the cap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is nothing active.
You need to be looking in the hollows for Blue Foot!
in the cow fields for Cubensis.
And in the Woods for Gyms...
I lived down in Wartrace for a couple years.. They are everywhere this time of year you just need to do some homework and start to look in the correct habitat!
Good luck!

Kind of hard to tell what they are. They look really dried.

We need to see the gills. Also check the rules post if you haven't already, for the required ID info.

I agree it's nothing active.

In a general sense they resemble Psathyrella candolleana, but those are old and in bad shape, and we need more info to do better than a wild guess (that's what this is, so far).

Happy mushrooming!
