OK, I think I have decided to use the perlite humidification method. So I take a rubbermaid tub but a fish bubbler in the bottom and then put perlite and water all over the bottom, cut a hole in the lid and wtach them babies grow?? Is this maintenance free, or do I still have to spray and exchange the air??

still have to spray(mist) and air exchange(fan).
Look at double and single tub teks to help with air exchange.

What you are describing is a PMP more or less. You'll need to be the judge if the RH is where it should be light misting may be required or may not, you should be just fine in the FAE department except during the pinning stage when you'll want to fan the casings surface for 10-15 seconds several times a day the reason for this is there are stagnate air pockets in your casings microclimate where primordia develops and CO2 settles into these and the airstone/wand method does nothing to disturb these pockets. Primordia forms abundantly in low CO2 concentrations. Other than that it should work great. GL

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

Perlite humidification is badass for cakes. I put maybe a couple of inches of perlite in the bottom of the fruiting chamber, maybe 1/2 inch of water and put the cakes on top of lids on top of the perlite. I didn't even cut a hole in the fruiting chamber. Humidity was almost 100%. You still have to fan a couple times a day.
Before I tried perlite, I bought all this stuff ... fish bubblers, ultrasonic humidifiers, etc. Didn't work as well as the perlite, which is a lot cheaper, 5 bucks vs. 40. Perlite rockz!
Oh, I didn't spray either.

I agree with you. Perlite replaces so much hard to regulate crap and the results you get are better than any of those complicated methods. There is simply no better way to regulate humidity.
I also agree about the spraying. You don't need to spray unless you are fanning too much.
One tip I have for ya though is to place the cakes directly on the perlite. They'll fruit more and you'll even get fruits from the perlite around the bases of the cakes.
A lot of people seem to be putting bubblers in their perlite... It's not required and is just another way to cause problems if you're not careful.

I use the bubblers with L.E.C.A material not perlite and it too will fruit. Also by using leca material like geolite you can reuse it forever just bake it sterile agn and your good to go. Everyone has there way of doing it, you just got to figure out wich works for you
