Seeing blue!

Today was probably one of the best of my life.
Yesterday I headed down to a trail about a mile from my house, and searched for hours for a particular mushroom... the caerulipe.
I ended up finding 1, in solitude, ate it later that day and had a wonderful buzz.
Today, I woke up and decided to go back to look for more... I didn't expect to find much though...
Then I stumbled upon a wonderful isolated field, it looked just like a veldt with mountains in the background (expect without the lions:)).
I walked around this beautiful place, and found numerous agrocybes, panaeolus, some very large brown mushrooms, and countless others that I didn't know of... but no caerulipes...
I thought to myself, oh well... at least I had a great time, and then i saw them. Thousands of caerulipes
I ran over to them in awe, and quickly filled 6 brown paper bags, all the room I had, though I could have filled 20 or more. I called my friends in excitement, and now i just returned home.
I opened the bag, and WOW, they are so blue and pretty, me and my friend will feast tonight
I would get pics, but I have the worst camera in the world...This summer I'm getting another one though, and will eventually post pictures of the beautiful veldt-like field, and mushies.
Oh, and I have one question... Some of the caerulipes have a 'burned looking' cap. Does this mean they're rotten? Are they safe to eat?
Thanks.

Perhaps the "burned looking" caps could be spore deposits? That happens with a lot of 'em. Does some of it scrape or rub off?
Congrats on the finds.

There the most potent mushroom ive ever eaten. At least visually. There all over that river though. I think just about the whole river is one big mushroom. You could roll down the river bank with you mouth open and be tripping before you hit the water.....

Jesus, under is right.
Me and my friend highly under estimated them last night. We ended up eating like 8 large fresh shrooms each-big mistake.
I can't remember the whole trip, nor do I feel like explaining it all, but I remember staring into the wood floors seeing rivers flowing, and walking outside on his farm where we both started shrinking... I remember a wheel barrow towering over me, and whenever I sat down in a chair I would sink deep into it, and it would suck me inside. The scariest shit was my feet, arms and hands were all extremely distorted-my feet looked like an ogre's and my hands were about the size of golf balls while the rest of my arm was 1/2 a foot wide...Not to mention the fucking spiders all over the walls which would poof as soon as I touched them haha. I couldn't even turn the TV on, we kept saying, 'turn the tv on' for like an hour, but we couldn't get up, let alone use the damn remote... Sometimes I would freak out because I felt so 'jello-y', and my voice sounded like a retarded english man's.
Oh, and I dont know about everyone else, but me and my friend both agreed that these shrooms are the best tasting ones we've ever had--well not tasty, but not gross either (chili is the best chaser ).

While i must admit you found a nice patch of what appear to be p. caerulipes (real bad photographs), I must also say that that is one of the worst nastiest collections of mushrooms I have rever seen anyone harvest in my entire life.
There are damaged mushrooms, rotted shrooms and others in there with damaged stems and damaged caps and they sure look like they were abuse by improper handling and storage after beign harvested by you. Otr they are the results of natural too much rain and a wind damage to have a clean crop.
Look at Eris and Shroomy Dan's and others collections of the magic mushrooms shown in this forum, especially of their P. caerulipes collections. They are nagnificent in their preservation and handling. I have never seen such a horrible bunch of mushrooms except rotted ones in gardens and lawns., and I think no one else here ever has seen such damaged mushrooms in a collection and in that kind of condition.
Everyone elses collected shrooms are always in such beautiful condition and much more superior than the ones I just viewed here.
What are you doing wrong to gather those and carry them around with you that they look like leftovers from soneones garbage can?
Here are 20 examples of fresh collected Psilocybe cyanescens which macroscopically resemble the P. caerulipe mushrooms.
This is how your shrooms should look after harvesting and rotted shrooms should really be left to regenerate an area. Not eaten or given away because they look so yucky and are most likly loaded with bacteria and worms in your collections. Their condition is horrible and the images below are just one species from my library of what shrooms should look like after collecting them.

And now a word of serious warings.
Galerina species, which contain three of the deadliest species, all containing the same deadly amatoxins as the deadly Amanitas, can and do grow directly in and around and even underneath clusters and under larger caps of P. caerulipes. They also do this in several of the species found in the PNW and the rest of the world.
Their caps are also similar colors to P. caerulipes and their shpaes with umbos and with wavy caps have been found growing together in such collections, even here in the PNW Galerinas grow in association with P. cyanescens, P. Stuntzii and other macroscopically looking mushrooms.
It is very easy to grab a cluster of P. caerulipes and quite possibly under them can grow baby Galerina mushrooms. When they are as damaged as the ones you show in your pictures, it would be very easy to mistake a poisonous species for an active one.
This next image is of a Hygrocybe growing with its mycelia attached to a Psilocybe cyanescens mushroom. WHile this one is very distiguishable from P. cyanecens, it was growing under and amongst a cluster of which I removed most of the other shrooms to show how close this is to being picked and maybe consumed by accident without really looking to see it there.

Over the years I have seen Galerinas and so have many other PNW collectors such as Roadkill, Psillygirl, @cro, cardboard, Mattso, And many others in the area.
In this next image is a loan specimen of Galerina marginata growing amongst Psilocybe cyanescens.

Someone who does not know their shrooms could very easily pick this one along with the rest.
Last fall, two kids in Oregon ate a mixture of P. cyanescens with galerina autunalis. They swore they were all P. cyanescens and had picked them before on many ocassions.
Toxicologists reported amatoxins and found several fresh specdimens of Galerina in the kids collection bag along with the P. cyanescens.
One kid lived (on dialysis) and the other died in three days.
I try to teach people not to picked rotted or damaged shrooms.
And when people get them from friends, they want to see healthy specimens, not how the damaged looking ones in your collections appear.
Still I commend you on a score, but I can hardly even tell that they are P. caerulipes, although I think they are. Their condition sucks. And personally I probably would not trust your collection enough to want to wat any of them looking like that. But then that is my opinion only and not that of others.
have a shroomy day and try to take better care of your children when collecting them
mj
