So i'm considering on buying a food dydrator to dry my mushrooms Anything I should know on which kind to buy, potency loss, etc? Also would any cheap food dydrator work?

I too recommend for everyone to own a nesco american harvest. not the entree edition, but that will work too.

that is the entree version. it will work but there is no adjustable heat control. I like to keep mine at 97 degrees. I have one like this too, but it is not compatable with the other two.
I'd go with one that is adjustable from on top like I linked you to, or the one that is over 100 which if you keep looking can be had for around 30

I too use a Nesco brand. i just opened it up and removed the heating element. (takes about 1 to 1 & 1/2 days the fully dry one tray worth)

no real potency difference at all.
I guess anything under 400 degrees is okay to dry with. I just like to be safe.
Never dried with much heat before, and don't want to start now. I too dismantled the heating coil on my entree version.
