i did a test run on my pressure cooker to make sure it worked and i have a question about the cakes. are the cakes suppse to be kinda dry or should they be moist. the top of some of the cakes after i cooked them were dry and hard. i dont know if its suppose to be that way or am i not using enough water. i ordered my spore syringe yesterday so i'm trying to get the feel for the cakes and what there suppose to look like?

You really should follow the PF Tek.....to the Tee.
Since this is your first time.

I have deviated slightly.
I use 2 cups of Verm......1 cup of BRF....and 1 cup of purified water.
This mixture is a little wet.....but it works great for me.

When the Sacred Jar Preparer removes the sterile jars from heat, they seem 'fluffy', meaning the jar is totally packed, but there is space throughout the substrate. This is good, because the mycelia need air to grow.
After a few weeks, the cakes get small and hard, easy to handle. If you make your jars too dry, moisture may build , because you are adding water with your spore solution.
If your jars are too moist to begin with, it is possible contams may occur with the added water from your syringe.
Always it is observed that droplets form in jar, this is normal, and never causes a problem, for we perfer drier to moist.
It is a good idea to folllow a tek at first, but with time, you will know what works best for you.

a friend of mine found out jars that are dry colonize faster than jars that are wet
but try to get a good balance using the recipe

and you can always dunk as long as they finish.....
