Benefits of hay?

I will do doing my first bulk grow as soon as my WBS jars are done colonizing. On many teks I have read that people add straw to their compost. I was thinking of just getting some horse poo and spawning to that. Or would it be worth my while to get some straw as well. Would horse poo work just as well by itelf with some verm to spawn to or is there certain benefits to including hay into the compost?

Hay should be a last resort if you absolutely can't find anything else. Use straw or manure, or a mixture of the two. RR

Alright so I'm going out in the next couple days to go pick up a couple tubs full of horse poo. It is a bit of a drive away so I wanted to get everything that I would need/want in one go. I will definitely be grabbing the horse poo. Should I ask for some straw as well while I'm at it? What would be the benefits of adding staw to the substrate. I know that horse poo would work well on it's own but would there be any benefits to adding hay?

When you get the horse manure, it almost always has straw mixed in already. They line the stable floors with straw, then it makes it easier to rake, sweep or shovel the shit out into a pile outside. Just get the stuff that's been out in the sun and rain for a few months. Get your manure after a spell of hot, dry weather. If you bring it home wet, it will mold. RR

I just went to some stables today, his poo pile had saw dust and wood chips mixed in the poo. I just picked the poo that had no or minimal shaving on them. Still there is a small amount of shavings. will this be detramental? Sorry to post a question on your post, but I don't feel like making my own. Also half is wet and half is dry, I spread it out on a tarp to dry, is this ok? thanks and good luck with your grow hybridphil.

don't worry about the shavings or whatever (assuming they aren't chemically treated) and the wet poo will be fine so long as it dries quickly (just put it outside in the sun)

Make sure the manure that is wet is wet from rain, not from being fresh. You want sun aged and rain leached manure at least three to six months old. You can pick out the large chunks of wood, but the small ones will colonize fine along with the manure. RR

Im probably going to get a lot of disagreement...
but IME straw works just as well as horse poo as far as potency goes.. sometimes my straw grows are more potent also IME I have had more yield with straw
go figure, once again this is in my experience... if you research the info you will probably find the opposite (which I thought I would too)
straw rocks! hay will cause mad contams
