Big Purplish Mushrooms in Maryland

Hello this is my first post so I hope I get it right. I found these mushrooms today wile fishing. They were growing on what seemed to be a compost-leaf pile. The caps are purplish before they grow big and flatten out, then they turn a brownish color as pictured on the bigger ones. The stems are hollow and strong as are the caps. The gills are grey-black. I hope this is enough info. to get a proper ID.

Upon closser review the stems are solid sorry about that. They loked hollow at the base but when i cut them to get a spore sample I found they are more solid but still very meaty and firm the stems are a off white color with tan-brown lines running there length. Thanks for any info.

Those look like Stropharia rugosoannulata the Wine Cap.
The key distinguishing feature of this mushroom is upturned teeth on the annulus; be sure to check for them.

I see them.
The ring on the stem; the edges are upturned like teeth. The annulus is fragile and usually falls off with a little handling, but I can see one is still intact in your photos.

Hey 2......you should probably not be so quik to eat something just because someone told you on a web site theyre OK from a pic......do you yourself know how to take a spore print or what color your mushrooms spores are first......or the gill attatchment your mushroom has and how to research a little bit your mushroom.....caution.....take the proper steps first.....I can show you IDs made on this sight even recently that would scare the hell out of you......even ones where this species name was confused with a poisonous mushroom.
you should compare names given to you with your mushroom by doing some research first before eating anything
Ive seen millions of times two different mushrooms people have picked thinking they were the same ones but werent and were poisonous
learn the couple things I suggested first for yourself before eating anything

Yea shroomydan I looked over that list before I posted I'm not going to actually eat these things it was just a joke. I'd be more interested had they been active however. Thanks for the info and it's nice to see a trusted identification expert answered my Post almost immediately.
