Preferance of humidifier for casings
    #5650472 - 05/19/06 02:18 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

What is the best kind of humidifier to use for a casing? Also i was wondering, would you just place the humifier in the container with the casing, or somehow run tubes from the humidifier to the casing tub? All of the humidifiers ive seen so far have a ventalated exhaust, so im not sure how I would run a tube from it.

Most use cool mist humdifiers. If you are setting up a Martha, you can place it inside; otherwise, you'll need hose.

Correct: Cool Mist must be pumped from outside martha... and with a martha its uusally best to have cool mist 24/7, with an ultrasonic on timer...

Non-martha? Get a cool mist custom modded with a hose output into your chamber... if you have multiple containers, you can try getting a 2.5 gallon per day or more cool mist and pipeing it to multiple chambers. Whateva?

Incorrect.

Be very careful when using words such as must. It is not required or in my opinion even desirable to have the coolmist outside the greenhouse. It is also not required to use the coolmist for fresh air exchange. A humidifier is designed to provide humidity. I run two coolmists inside my greenhouse, which is equal in size to three or four marthas, and I've been running the same two for well over a year without a failure. Prior to that, I was going through them every couple of months when trying to pipe in the humid air from outside, and once you modify the humidifier with hoses, you can't return it to the store for a refund when it shits the bed.

It's extremely easy to get plenty of FAE in a greenhouse by simply leaving holes open in the sides, and/or the door cracked. This gives continuous air exchange as opposed to just when the humidifier is running. By placing the humidifier directly inside the greenhouse, it needs to run FAR less than it would on the outside, cutting down on drips within. For a tub, you don't need perlite or a humidifier with cased bulk substrates. They will provide plenty of humidity on their own as moisture evaporates from the casing layer.

Yea i was considering placing multiple casings within one tub, but i suppose ide get the same kind of yield just using the tub itself, and circumvent perlite/humidifier. Ive read perlite can be to humid for casings, ie : placing wet perlite at the bottom of a tub and having multiple casings in the tub. Whats the best temperature to keep a casing of 50/50/... verm/coir/CRS with rye substrate?
