N. Georgia Hunters?? & Stinky shroom ID (pics + sporeprint)
    #5648942 - 05/19/06 02:25 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I went on another N.W. Georgia hunt last night, my fifth in two weeks. This time I didn't find much but shit in the pasture, save for a seriously raging donkey and a handful of pan foes; the weather has just been too cold and dry around here to fruit cubes I think, as during all my hunts I've only found one young specimen :mad2:. Anyway, right as I was leaving the cow field I came across two relatively short-stemmed but large-capped shrooms under a big shady oak near the tree line. I was almost certain right off that they weren't active, but the bigger one was so big and somehow regal and they both had such a distinctive smell--rather like a salty, slightly fetid, meaty-sweat scent--that I was really curious what they were. So here be the pics...

Also, I've repeatedly read that cubes are more plentiful below I-20, but between work, higher risk accessing fields, and $3 gas, that's an outside option for me. So I'm curious to know how other shroomers north of Atlanta have been faring so far this season. Any cube finds? How about worthwhile Panaeolus subbalteatus finds? Gyms?

Given my lack of success with cube/subb hunting so far, I'm really dying to get down to maybe Canton/Woodstock/Alpharetta after the next good rain to check for some weiliis. If anyone acquainted with the weilii scene (or not, but curious) would be interested in enlightening a discrete 21-year-old shroomer then shoot me a PM. (Sorry, couldn't find the Gathering forum)

That is an Agaricus. Some species of the genus are edible and some are poisonous; none are psychoactive. Yours is too far along to be of culinary value even if it is an edible species.
