contam ?'s
    #564840 - 02/27/02 01:59 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

I have been incubationg my jars for about a month now and i birthed the most mature, which was about half colonized. I heated a knife and cut the top off and then broke away most of the uncolonized substarate and used an adapt. of mmgg and used hot metal to sterilize. this particular jar had some greenish blue growth while in the jar on the mycilim, i remember reading that contams woudn't grow directly on myclim, is this true? cuz thats what i got, i think. could this be bruising? this seems like a longer time that most teks predict, and my jars are still only about half colonized or less. i got spores from fanaticus on about jan 28, is this before the mutant was identifed. also, i was wondering if my cakes get some contam on them could i simply cut it off? any help would be greatly appreciated.

possibly. if the contam is not too wide spread it may be possible, but i wouldnt reccomend it unless you plan to case, because the inside of your cake could be completely infected. Blueish spots might be bruising.

contams on mycelium is very possible, but not so common, because generally myc fights off contaminants after it has colonized.

it was only half colonized, so it won't fight off contams that well
