Is it me or does this happen to everyone?
    #5647941 - 05/18/06 09:42 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Almost every time I go out in public and a small child (4-6years old) notices me they speak, wave or stare.

I never thought anything about it till my wife mentioned something about it to me several years ago.

Today I was going into an office building. There was a car with a mother and child inside, parked out by the front door. As I walked past, the kid stuck her head out of the window and yelled "Hi!"

"How are you doing on this beautiful day?" I said.

"Fine." She said "I want some candy."

I just smiled, waved at her and went on into the building.

When I left the building, I got some gum out of my car. I approached the car from the side the mother was on and (speaking to the mother) I said "I don't have any candy but I have some gum"

"That was what she wanted" the mother said "She was trying to get my gum out of my mouth."

I gave her a stick of gum and went to my car.

She stuck her head out of the car and yelled "Thank you!"

I waved again, got in my car and left.

This type of thing happens about once a month. When a prolonged talk takes place. Most times they just wave or say hi.

Is this normal for everyone else or do kids just like me?

Next time, you need to sucker punch the girl's mom and shove her in your car. Drive off and enjoy the free meats.

Same here. Whenever I'm in a room full of small children or babies, they seem to want to interact with only me, regardless of the rest of the crowd. My wife notices it also, and she loves it being that we want children, but both of us are sterile/barren.

It was a new pack of WinterFresh.
I let the kid pull the piece out.

I see what you saying. I do treat them like "new" people rather than "little" people.

But, most times, they notice me and speak, before I make any kind of eye contact.

It is kinda weird. Having strange kids walk up to you and ask you questions. Knowing that parents are teaching their kids NOT to speak to strangers these days. Here they are talking to me like I'm their uncle or something.

I don't mind it.
I like kids.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when Im around people who are so fresh and curious about this new world they find themself in.

It is just............kinda weird.

It is sad that parents tell their kids not to talk to strangers. When a person harms a child in any way it is usually some form of familiar family member doing it.

Telling a kid not to talk to strangers is like setting the kid up to not trust other people they have not met before.

Why are people so scared of eachother

LOL... you just reminded me of something that happened on my last trip...
i walked into a bakery to get something to eat (having had nothing but mushrooms since i woke up) i was grinning like MAD because everything was good and i was happy to be getting some food (although it was quite disorianting in there with all the types of breads and cakes and what not)

anyway i walk in there and there's this little kid (3-4?) walking around while his dad is trying all the diffrent samples and trying to make up his mind, i smile at the little kid and i swear he could sense something was up! (it's funny how when they're that small you always seem to bump into them... always getting in yr way ) he kinda followed me around the little store trying to walk past me without me noticing and then clinging on to his dad haha... i was so fucking amused!

then i realized i had to pick something up so i decided to get anything that looked cheep and made of bread
the clerk asked me what i wanted and i just pointed and said "these buns" and he goes "the round ownes?" i wanted to burst out laughing but just said "yeah whatever"
it seems so stupid to have THAT many choices at the time and everyone seemed to be this bread conissure lol!

thanks for reminding me and sorry for the almost off topic post

I learned a bit of wisdom as I often do from my fellow parental friends. Its ok to talk to strangers *IF* mommy and daddy is around. This is what I'm now teaching my children. This way you can ensure their safety and let them explore.

Happens to me often too, I guess im just good with kids and I appeal to them. Its sometimes a drag when it involves family because kids never give me a minutes rest...but its no skin off my back  I enjoy it. Kids often stare at me in public too, they usualy are too shy to speak but some have and the words werent candy they were "Hi!.... .... My mommy says we need $10 to buy a "toys name goes here" that is all I evur' wanted... she said I could have it if you gave $20!"...I wish it was more of a favor like yours, one without high price favors asked by adorable girls/boys.

Some kids are just to energetic and being a kid magnet or a coat hanger for kids really takes a whole day from me, sometimes its a shame that I must push them out of my way to acheive completion of anything at all or just to play or write on the shroomery!

Im daddy mice!

Ahh - this happens to me all the time. This may sound weirder, but it also happens with people who are mentally handicapped. I have been in busy court yards and had mentally handicapped people walk up to me and begin talking to me out of no where. I think it's 1. trippers still appreciate the real world, not the pseudo world of money business and telephone calls that seems odd to children; 2. Some people are just more approachable. I happen to smile all the time and be very friendly, I think that vibe hits people before I open my mouth or smile.

I don't know I have noticed this phenomena before and I think its kinda neat. Makes me feel more primal or something, less attached to society, more to humanity.
