niteowl said: Almost every time I go out in public and a small child (4-6years old) notices me they speak, wave or stare.
I never thought anything about it till my wife mentioned something about it to me several years ago.
Today I was going into an office building. There was a car with a mother and child inside, parked out by the front door. As I walked past, the kid stuck her head out of the window and yelled "Hi!"
"How are you doing on this beautiful day?" I said.
"Fine." She said "I want some candy."
I just smiled, waved at her and went on into the building.
When I left the building, I got some gum out of my car. I approached the car from the side the mother was on and (speaking to the mother) I said "I don't have any candy but I have some gum"
"That was what she wanted" the mother said "She was trying to get my gum out of my mouth."
I gave her a stick of gum and went to my car.
She stuck her head out of the car and yelled "Thank you!"
I waved again, got in my car and left.
This type of thing happens about once a month. When a prolonged talk takes place. Most times they just wave or say hi.
Is this normal for everyone else or do kids just like me?
Happens to me often too, I guess im just good with kids and I appeal to them. Its sometimes a drag when it involves family because kids never give me a minutes rest...but its no skin off my back I enjoy it. Kids often stare at me in public too, they usualy are too shy to speak but some have and the words werent candy they were "Hi!.... .... My mommy says we need $10 to buy a "toys name goes here" that is all I evur' wanted... she said I could have it if you gave $20!"...I wish it was more of a favor like yours, one without high price favors asked by adorable girls/boys.
Some kids are just to energetic and being a kid magnet or a coat hanger for kids really takes a whole day from me, sometimes its a shame that I must push them out of my way to acheive completion of anything at all or just to play or write on the shroomery!
Im daddy mice!

Kids stare at everyone... it's one of the reasons I don't like them.

Ahh - this happens to me all the time. This may sound weirder, but it also happens with people who are mentally handicapped. I have been in busy court yards and had mentally handicapped people walk up to me and begin talking to me out of no where. I think it's 1. trippers still appreciate the real world, not the pseudo world of money business and telephone calls that seems odd to children; 2. Some people are just more approachable. I happen to smile all the time and be very friendly, I think that vibe hits people before I open my mouth or smile.
I don't know I have noticed this phenomena before and I think its kinda neat. Makes me feel more primal or something, less attached to society, more to humanity.

yes totally relevant.
-------------------- "A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." -Al Einstein
