Very Large Scare, Operation Scorched Earth Successful
    #5647848 - 05/18/06 09:24 PM (18 years, 5 days ago)

Today my neighbors apartment caught fire. After a liong stress filled day of dealing with the FD, I went to my Apt, to smoke a bowl and unwind. To my dismay my landlord shoed up insisting he be let in to check for damage, after his visit he made a comment before leaving about "If you are gonna smoke pot, better be a bit more cautious next time, I could smell it instantly, the cops would have a hayday harassing you." My mind immediately flashed to the 4 monotubs colonizing, 2 fruiting, and 2 dozen jars in my incubator.

Well needless to say I spent a hectic 2 and a half hours scorching the earth of my home. Everything that could be moved was, everything that could not was tossed, and everything miscellaneous about cult is no longer here.

Now I get to spend a good few days wondering. And praying I don't get a knock. I know he probably would not have warned me had he intended to nail me, but safe is a fuck ton better than sorry.

Goes to show in an apartment you have no guarantees that something won't breach your security. I had no fire, I did no wrong, I minded my own business and even helped the girl and her kids deal with the aftermath of the fire by getting her to a hospital with her babies.

And here I am, frightened out of my wits, still not over my 105 wet gram trip this morning. All due to curcumstances BEYOND my control.

Be safe, be wary, and never ever become too comfortable.

That's rough dude. It might not be an issue though. Last year a buddy's party got busted when he was growing some mushrooms and slinging weed. It was way too loud, a ton of 19 and 20 year olds drunk on jungle juice, no one would open the door for the cops so they kicked in the door and gave everyone mips (except me, i somehow passed a breathalyzer despite being drunk. go figure. it was scary as hell though)

Anyway, they only charged him with a noise disturbance and furnishing alcohol to minors, despite seizing 3/4 of an ounce of chronic Humbolt County Trainwreck next to some baggies and a scale (they even left the scale). They also seized his mushroom aquarium, but didn't charge him for that. They also took a bunch of pieces (I think the count on the police report was 9, but only 7 were theirs, two people ditched pipes when they cops came. Two of the seven were real nice bongs). They also took a sign that said "Lets Get Drunk Bitches. SALOON--->". Maybe they don't want to deal with having to potentially argue the validity of the evidence in court in situations where they encounter something relatively minor in scale?

Good luck.

I would have done exactly the same thing, Darken. You landlord knows that you burn, so depending on him to be cool is not an option. You can always start over, a far better reality than cops, warrants, etc. GL.

Too bad about the Trainwreck...came from my part of the world. It is truely wrecking weed!!
Good call, although I feel your pain. It's always a risk when you deal with landlords so close, or apt. living.
Good Luck and Peace

if it had been either the cops or someone who would notify the cops, guess where you'd be sitting right now.

don't smoke pot where you're growing mushrooms. do it somewhere else.

"hey, i'm commiting a serious felony in here that i will do time in the state penitentiary for if i get caught... i think i'll fill this place with the pungent scent of "probable cause" because i'm too lazy to go smoke somewhere else".

come on. be smart. that could have been the cops and you could be doing 5 to 10.

I agree-
24 hour written or verbal. Only in extreme circumstances ( major gas leak, place is on fire, someone calling out for help) can landlords enter.
I am a landlord in Calif, and I believe this is USA law. It certainly is in Calif!!

It's like that here in Canada, too; unless there is a major emergency, the landlord MUST give at least 24 hours prior notice if they wish to enter the premises.
However, in this situation they could probably get away with saying it was an emergency as there was a fire next door - though I still wouldn't let them in.

Actually its in my lease that he has to give 24 hours excpet in cases of Emergency, and potential fire damage from a fire in my neighboring apt I think fits that description. Its ok though all is well, grow is moved, and I didn't even miss a beat.

Was interesting though.

You said it yourself, only in extreme circumstances. Thats when you can be in trouble since those circumstances are generally out of your controll. A little while back I posted on the FD and PD comming to my apartment after some grain simmering on the stove got left there for way to long and smoked the entire place out. No fire but if those pigs didnt stay downstairs and came up to look around, I'd have been screwed...

Yes, quite often the circumstances are beyond your control...it sucks, but that is the reality of apt. living.
I have my tennants sign a release stating that they will not engage in the growing of marijuana or the production of illegal substances. This is to protect myself, since the owner of the property can ( and usually is) be charged with owning a place that was used for illegal activities, should the place get raided.
And, yes, my renters have inadvertenly left pipes and such not very well hidden. They take good care of my place, so I tend to look the other way on the small shit. But if they ever had a grow or something... not gonna risk my investment!!
Peace

Oh, Yes, my friends... They arrest property owners left and right in my area. Don't kid yourselves. Heavy fines, jail time, shiiiit,
In meth labs the propery in sold more often than not. And more often than not, the property owners don't have a clue. They live out of the area, and get a summons in the mail!!
And I should risk losing my $175,000 house 'cause some asshole is dealing, growing or cooking? I think not!!!!
And. like I said, they take good care of the place, and I don't sweat the small stuff.
