I found a bunch these walking home, probably not active.

* found by a tree, don't know tree, domestic area(apartments, USA, California * Chocolate Brown to black-brown gills * Thin hollow stem * light brown, some type of yellow dots on top of the caps * Making spore print now * don't bruise colors so far * smell like mushrooms but sweet sour smell

Oh god, another coprinus. Maybe we should put a permanent bulletin up top the board about coprinus, Hahahaha. It's gotta be waht, like 30% ID requests are coprinus?? Maybe more?

This is the time of year where lots of people post coprinus finds... I've been reading this forum for many seasons. The coprinus finds usually die down more as late summer/fall arrives. Then there are other species that get posted 100s of times.

coprinus micacea is a possibility.
It looks like coprinus atramentarius to me.

Huh...yeah that makes sense. The warmer weather i notice tends to dry the coprinus mushrooms up extremely quick, and then within just HOURS they start inking. Hmmm, I will be interested to see what the common genus will be for the summer...

Ok in your case its a road trip up I5.... But you have a few months to go! Or you can take a summertime road trip to the south! "Land of the Big Fat Cubes" LOL

yeah they do i picked a bunch and started to try to dry them out, and i woke up the next moring, and my whole bedroom smelled of rotting fungus....

Hahahaha!! I tried using the oven at a low temp to dry them out *before* they inked....... yucky smell EVERYWHERE.

if your talkin The Inland Empire I 15 its almost all strip malls and asphalt in last 3 years.......but central Cali another story.... but you wouldnt beleive the 15 heading there once your over the pass.....must be a 100 tracks underway along side at once at any givin time......coming soon to a town near you....

Well I was talking about taking I-5 north Oregon,Washington and BC... I grew up in Anaheim and When I went back a couple years back I was kinda glad I was not there to be one Rat in a Million Rat Race...
