Length between making jars and inoculating?
    #5647238 - 05/18/06 06:14 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Hello,

I searched and could not find this answered so I am going to post it. I made up my jars today with the vermeculite/brown rice flour thinking I could sterilize them tonight and inoculate tomorrow, but I found I won't be getting my spores until next week.

Should I just dump these jars and remake them next week or can I safely pressure cook them next week and then inoculate? The jars are sealed and I did not put holes in the tops yet.

Thanks!

They should be fine but of course, the sooner the better.

Also keep the jars covered with foil so no bacteria can enter the holes into the vermiculite layer.

Ok thank you very much.

I know to keep jars covered with foil when i puncture them, but at the moment they did not have holes in the lids.

Thanks again

If you already made up the jars...you better pressure cook them tonight.

They won't keep other wise.

You can store them for a week...pre sterilized no problem.

wait I'm confused, sorry..

You said I better pressure cook them tonight, why is this? You also said they will keep for a week no problem pre-sterilized, do you mean post-sterilization?

ooops

if you have already made up the jars...put the substrate into the jars.
they need to be sterilized tonight.

jars that you sterilize will easily last a week...while you are waiting on syringes.

if you made up the jars...and didn't sterilize them...they would go bad.

sorry I wasn't more clearer earlier.
