I'll give you two situations involving two hypothetical MJ smokers, and I await your responses. Here goes:
Person A, let's call him L. Fan. No, that's too obvious. Let's call him Leary F., takes a hit of marijuana and holds the smoke in. When he/she exhales, little or no smoke comes out.
Person B takes a hit of marijuana and holds the smoke for only a few seconds and blows it out. Smoke fills the room.
Who gets a better hit? Who get's higher?

I read in some study that somethiing like 90% if thc/cannabanoids are obsorbed by the lungs within 2 seconds or something... past that, you are really just giving yourself cancer via carcinogens.
So while Leary F maybe be slightly more stoned, the benefits are negligable.

My friend is always getting pissed because he says Im blowing out the smoke too early. Personally I dont think I get that much higher from holding it in.

I've heard most THC is abosrbed almost immediately and that the maximum amount is absorbed around 15 seconds. I don't have anything to back this up tho.

I usually hold it in for 5 - 10 seconds. We used to play some game in highschool where you had to hold yer hit till the joint got back to you.

Holding it in as long as possible is just part of the experience, even if it doersnt get a great deal more THC into you.

I have read about some of the mystics in india that smoke using a special method. They would take a hit and hold it in while trying to push it out increasing the pressure in the lungs. When they couldn't hold it any longer, they would let a very slow stream of smoke out. The method seems to do something, though it is hard to know if it is from the smoke or lack of oxygen.

I hold the smoke in as long as possible. I just love the feeling of reefer smoke in my mouth (Seeing it blow out my nose is pretty cool, too.)

Your friend is crazy. You dont get any higher from doing that at all. all you're doing is giving yourself a headache. All the thc gets absorbed within a second.
You WANT to be blowing smoke out. your friend that apparently exhales no (you really mean less) smoke than you do probally coughs a lot.
i think i'd much rather blow the shit out, than cough it out over the next 3 days.
so BLOW THAT SHIT OUT
dont be holding it in thats just giving you a headrush

I hold it in untill it literally forces itself out, without getting to the point of coughing like a maniac. If i know i took too big a hit i won't try to hold it in too long. People who exhale almost immediatly after taking a hit suck  , they are wasting MY weed and my time, not to mention stinking the place up.
LearyF im like you, i tend to exhale litle to no smoke even though i clear an entire pearly-white tube and hold it for 5-7 seconds. I couldn't have done this when i started though, i guess my lungs are somewhat 'conditioned' to cannabis.
Blowing out a small amount of smoke also doesn't stink up the room nearly as much, which helps in the dorms. Recently Ive been packing single bong hits, finishing the entire bowl in one rip, suck through the ash, rip up the tube and then quickly run out of the room into the stairwell to exhale. You get some heavy headrushes after holding it in that long. Kinda sucks when you run into some kids on the stairs though, or worse yet some authorities.  fun shit....
Anyway, you should be holding it in for like atleast 5 seconds.

the person who smokes less weed on a daily basis. My mom and I smoke weed an d since I smoke it a lot more I hold my hits in till I can't hold it anymore and she blows hers out almost immedeitly but she get alot higher than I do cause she can't even cook when I go over to her house and get her high where as I can cook or drive or whatever.

I've smoked weed every day for the best part of 5 years and I never hold it in and I ALWAYS get high. All you are doing by holding it in is letting your lungs absorb ash and toxins from the smoke. Everybody is going to smoke as they wish but as far as I know, holding it in is a waste of time and is probably worse for your health. Especially if you mix tobacco with your weed. I guess that means I'm with Person B.

This was a very intelligent question..
Peachman is correct, after 2-3 seconds of cannibus inhalation all you are getting after that are the chemicals and toxins that may be in the weed and tobacco (if you add it).

Who in god's green earth would mix tobacco and marijuana?! This sounds to me like a major sin, considering one is cancer causing, filthy, health diminishing, and repulsive. And the other is...Well the other is mother mary.

Sorry guys, I know it is a major sin but down here in Australia "spinning" your ganja with tobacco is very common, even when using a bong. Pretty much every smoker I know in Aus mixes with tobacco. I think that this is why many people get addicted to the "hit" that you get from a bong. The tobacco in the mix gives you a huge nicotine rush, and thats what gets you hooked.
I don't really like it and I know it is bad for your health, but on the upside, your dope lasts longer.

You'd be surprised, I saw more drum-rolled cigarettes rolled before my eyes in Europe(and I've only been there a total of like 4 weeks), than I've seen ever in my life in the US of A.

I live in south Europe. I add just a bit of tobaco to marijuana so it burns more even and also to spare the mj, i don't see why not. Anyway, the only difference is that the high don't last too long, but when it ends we're all ready to light on another.
Also we don't smoke weed that much, not because we don't like it over ashish, we do, but we're all high stoners and good weed is hard to find so a bigger ash stone is perfered, kiff, polen are also welcome. Most of us are tobaco smokers, so we don't mind mixing tobaco with anything. Anyway, i have the impresion US smokers prefer weed, well, as long as you have good one for everyone, it's certainly better.
