jar flipping technique
    #5646415 - 05/18/06 01:41 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Ok, so I've heard of mycelium only forming on the bottom and not the top due to CO2, but.. my jars are doing the exact opposite. They're forming closer/slowly near the top (near the verm layer); not the bottom. Should I flip em?

you heard it backwards and what your jars are doing is normal

you can flip em upside down and leave it that way until they're done.  or rotate them every now and then.  or whatever.  i've put flipped jars vs. non flipped jars side by side and saw no difference anyway, but your mileage may vary.  the bottom is always last and often slow regardless...

I think frank is saying the mycelium is forming on the bottom of his jars and NOT the top. This could be due to spore solution running down the sides of the jar and accumulating in the bottome. I'd say for now leave them right side up and wait, if this is the case. How long has it been since you knocked 'em up?
