invalid scan freq.
    #5646072 - 05/18/06 12:14 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

so, for the time being, i've decided to use an older 19" Gateway VX900 CRT monitor that came into my possession for one of my computers. when i run Media Center with only my monitor configured in Catalyst Control Center (using an All-In-Wonder 2006), the monitor works fine. however, when i have it set up to use my TV and the monitor, and boot up Media Center in full screen, the monitor goes garbled and displays its own error message "Invalid Scan Freq" (the TV works fine) until I either window Media Center or close it out. This never happened on my other monitor. I've tried different screen resolutions and refresh rates, and tried making the monitor both primary and secondary through the Catalyst Control Center. Tried reinstalling the drivers for the video card. Tried running another program in full screen (GTA: San Andreas) and that runs fine in conjunction with the TV. Running out of things to try, ain't finding much information through google searches.

Peace/CJ

When the monitor detects a synchronous signal that is out of set up specification or is unstable The OSD indicates the message Invalid scan freq. Verify the specification of the input signal. INVALID SCAN FREQ.

I found this little nugget of information on Gateway, though I'm still confused.

well, for better or worse, i found a solution - unchecking the box that hides potentially unsafe refresh rates for your monitor and upping it 100hz no longer gives me the BS message.
