WinXP/firefox help...

About 2 weeks ago I started having an issue with my wireless mouse and keyboard. I replaced the batteries (didn*t help) then I started getting *board failure* messages when windows was started. The keyboard will work through a USB port, but not the round (reg.) port. I reinstalled the driver (didn*t work). Shortly thereafter I started having browser troubles where FF will load my home page (the shroomery, of course ) when opened, but when I click a link or enter a new address it will only reload the home page. I have uninstalled and reinstalled FF, it will work for a few min. then start f*ing up again. Norton anti virus doesn t detect anything, and since I cant browse with that machine, I can t update it. I*m not having any other problems, it will boot and shut down just fine, I just can*t browse the web. Does this sound like a virus? Any suggestions?
*the apostrophy key doesn t work on this old board.

run hijackthis & see whats running behind the scenes.
uninstalling/reinstalling will not do anything because you'll have the same profile. try deleting the profile entirely.
if it's not some virus, then your mouse/keyboard and firefox problems are separate issues.
norton kinda sucks, too.

Your response was 100% accurate (thanks for the link, too) When I opened the appdata folder, I found two profiles, #2 being "liidy9.Mutha Fucka" I deleted all FF folders, uninstalled some drivers, cleaned up. Installed FF and everything else from a disk and I've been browsing just fine for 2 days now. My keyboard port is still not working (tho the device manager says it is). Fortunately, the wireless will work thru the usb connection (and the system accepts it) So, I've still got some work to do. I still have to go deeper into hijackthis. And as for norton, yeah, I hate it It's all disabled, and outdated by a year (I got a free copy) but it's all I got. I have mcaffee firewall (which I like.) It shows that my pc is solicited, mmm, I'd say on average, once every 3 min., consistently. It gives me total controll over information being swaped. After reading up after all the proxy server info. (earlier) I've decided that with a 56 ghey connection, it is random every time I sign on. So, back to work
peace

"liidy9.Mutha Fucka"? haha thats odd
not sure about the keyboard... I never had luck with wireless keyboards/mice. they always seem to crap out or the batteries die at the worst time.
as for antivirus, AVG Free and Avast! are both free and effective - I'd go with one of those.
as for firewalls, application-based firewalls kinda suck...I recommend just picking up a router and using that for protection - way better. I have a dlink ethernet router that I no longer need. if you want to buy it from me for cheap or trade, pm me. doing some spring cleaning this week.
