Any Vendor Need Video Help?
    #5644754 - 05/18/06 01:21 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Well I will call myself Babo untill you contact me. I was going to do a video for mycoshack basically just something to throw in the packages and such. I want to extend the offer to any vendor who would like / need my services.

Cost? No cost really just looking for some good karma and some long term tyes with good vendors.

Got plenty of video equiptment and am just looking to help. I just want to try to give back somehting to shroomery since I have gotten so much from it.

Mods if this is not the right place feel free to move it, seemed right to me.

Got any really good compositing software? I'm using premier pro 2 with after effects. I'm in the process of making an instructional video on mushroom growing. Been working on it for a long time now, because every time I get a new piece of software or better lighting, I want to refilm everything...lol

Sweet. I may be buggin' ya for some tips. With all I have invested in the windows stuff, it's too late to start over. The info I got at the video course I took was that Mac's are better at video editing, but I'll have to make do.

I have a gig of ram, and it's kinda slow rendering, especially when I play with the 3D graphics. I'll probably get another gig before I start getting heavy into special effects.

Yea, pick my brain all you want, at least i can help you with that and you can help with my growing

More ram will increase your rendering a little. A RAID 5 for HD's will help. Overclocking your video will help a little, and keep your CPU @ normal temps. If you have HT P4 then there are programs that help you unlock the full power when using AP.

I don't remember if AP allows clustering or even if windows allows in general, think that was a Linux thing.... don't remember, but if you could look into that. If you spent $300 on a bord/cpu some ram GB Ethernet, you would notice at least 200% difference. P4 3.0GHz - 800MHz FSB is only like $200 now.

I do know alot of after effects, stopped at 5.5 but they all are about the same. Let me know if you need anything

one thing i have learned and i am just putting it out there is that an epson r200 is about $70 now. Prints BEAUTIFULLY on the tops of ink jet CD/DVD. Best investment EVER. DVD's running 20 cents and up can't beat it.

Re: Any Vendor Need Video Help? [Re: Babo911]

My plan was to send my first DVD to a production company to get a glass master made. I want to make sure my DVD's play on any player, not just computers. I'm not completely clear on the difference between stamped and burned dvd's but the information I have is that stamped is better and longer lasting.

What is a RAID 5? I have a 3.2 ghz P4 on a windows media edition machine. I bought it because it already had the s-video and RCA ports built in, and some rudimentary editing software, which I've since deleted. I only use that machine for video editing. I deleted the norton anti-virus and nearly everything else that came on the machine. The only time I ever connect it to the internet is once a month or so to go to the windows update site.

Last year, I got seriously burned out from working graveyard shift, 12 hours per night. I was trying to come home after working all night, then set up the cameras, lights, etc., to film whle also trying to take care of the mycology projects. I got so drained, I just let everything go to shit and gave up. I left my job in March, and am starting to get my energy back. I plan to take off until at least September to get this video made. I'm not making a 'magic mushroom video', but rather an 'organic mushroom video for homegrowers' that specializes in legal edibles. Magic growers will be able to take their cue from "dung and straw loving mushrooms" as I describe teks for oysters and agaricus. I'll probably see what type of RAM I have and go get another gig today. I should probably get a usb hard drive for the project instead of filling up the one in the machine which is 180 gigs. My previous work had used up 120 gigs, and I deleted all of it yesterday in anticipation of starting the project up again. I still have the stuff on DV tape, so no need to duplicate it on the hard drive.

hey im kinda a computer wiz, if you get ram, get it from newegg, great prices. As for an extra hard drive, don't get usb because its usually slower and twice the money as an internal.

also when you look at your ram it will sometimes say what speed it is(the timeings) when you go shopping for more make sure you get the same timeings or higher, just be warned that the ram only works as fast as the slowest chip. and you usually want the same size chip, 512 +512 or 1 gb +1gb.

p.s. you can prob get 300 gb internal for the price of a 120gb external

ok i was wrong, but i still say the externals are slower.

p.s. just because i listed these doesn't mean to buy these exact ones.

what a RAID 5 is that you will never ever ever lost any information ever. lets say you have 5 300 GB hard drives.

What a raid 5 is that they will apear as one HD. instead of 1.5 TB it will be more around 1.1 TB. The informaton is shared acrost the 5 HD's alowing for a WAY faster write time and the data is i think it is called self forming? Need to brush up on my A+ again haha

well if something happens the other 4 HD's will recreat the file as if nothing ever happened

My latest video investment has been in a 8mm / s8mm for thoes of us who remember  transfer machine for FBF 8mm. Got any 8mm let me know, it would take a little but only charge for ship / suplies

My 1 TB raid five on ultra3 SCSI crossed to FW800 will beat an internal any day of the week. At a cost of $800 it better

ive never used raid 5 but, i think its like raid 0 or 1 or 2 somethign like that is what i have set up...raid makes your hard drives act as one. One of the setups is for file security to prevent it from failing, if one goes bad you have exact copy on other.

the other raid is where your 2 hard drives are built into one...and it just doubles the speed.

if your raid 5 is 1.5 tb's and now its 1.1 then its not 100% secure..its most likely a compromise between speed and secuirty..yet still faster than a single drive alone.

so your saying thats an external unit? my 2 hard drives are set up in raid and they are internal.

yea they are external. Raid0 has no securtity and just combinds the two. Raid 5 is 100% secure. You lose over 400 GB. With a 5 setup you ususally lose about 1 of the 5 HD's shared over the system to file fail securtity.

Until I get rich enough for all those toys, I'll just have to keep loading my edited product back onto DV tape and storing it that way. Once I put it back on DV, I go through and delete all the working files, clearing my hard drive for the next segment. It's not quite as easy, but a tad more economical.

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/R/RAID.html

thought id do a little research, it appears raid 5 is like i stated, prob the best of both worlds.

But roger rabbit if you go for raid 1, which is two exact hard drives hooked up. Lets say two 300 gb hd drives set up in raid 1. You would have only 300gb to use, but you would never have to worry about a failure because the other drive is mirroring the first= exact copy. and you will get a speed increase...its prob the best setup if your worried about security.

For video raid 0 is the better result under raid 5  This is if your looking for speed

Yea a raid 1 will do with 2 300gb HD's but it will be a little slower...

FINAL ANSWER:

Speed = Raid 0 (2 HD's Hooked up and share memory 100% memory is able to be used)

Securty = Raid 1 (2 HS's Hooked up and share 50% memory from both, the other 50% is put into backup cloned files so if one crashes just add a new HD and it will replicate the raid)

Security and Fail safe - Raid 5 (If you have the money get it. You will lose about 1 of the five HD's but it is fast and never lose info)

key word = copies

that would be very bad...making copies of someone else's work without their permission.

we had this problem with people posting links to pirated copies of someone elses work in the Mush Cult.
I was contacted by this individual and he wanted all the links to these pirated copies removed from the Shroomery.
And he was very upset by it.

and this could become a legal issue if you don't have the persons permission that made the said video...and they catch you.

not to get too far away from topic here but i do quite a bit of digital film making with a dv cam and final cut (mac)... but i've also recently picked up a transfer machine (well, stole last time i visited dad who has tons of expensive toys he never learned to use, i think he got it back in the 80s hoping to do his movies in vhs, and its still in the original package) and have a bunch of 8mm cameras (cant pass 'em up at garage sales you see a movie camera for like a buck and you gotta take it home!) and i really want to shoot some stuff in 8mm for that old timey quality, lots of ideas, but problem is no freekin' film.  you got any ideas where to go abouts getting some?  i've found a few places that sell/develop it but its always pricey, up to 50 bucks total for a single reel and that would add up real fast when you can only take a few minutes on each... and i've seen ebay sellers with old long ago expired film but not sure if that could be trusted
