Simmered Rye/Quinoa ... Quinoa Seeds Popped

I tried the PF technique a while back and had success, so I thought I'd take a try at grains. Rye seems like its highly recommended and I saw that some people are also using quinoa.
So, I put together a 2/3 Rye and 1/3 quinoa mix, soaked it for 24 hours, then decide to simmer it for 45 minutes. I opened up the pot and low and behold, the rye is fully hydrated (nice 'n swollen) but the quinoa seeds exploded all over the place.
Is it ok to use as is with the exploded quinoa seeds or do I have to start over. If I decide to go ahead, what are the risks? I'd hate to lose a pot full of grains, but if I must, I must.
I could try to rinse the rye and see if I can wash all the exploded quinoa seeds out, but I'm not sure how successful I'd be.
Any suggestions?

if you rinse really well you should be able to get all that starch off and be ok. next time don't simmer steap your grain. i don't even soak it first. just bring water to boil then toss in dry grain. take off heat and put teh lid on. leave it for 30 mins min better yet 45 mins or better yet go have lunch or watch a movie hhaha. rinse after and your set. remeber if you toss in a spoonful of verm in the bottom of each jar before you load you don't have to drain well at all. just a simple tip with the lid craked is fine.

Start over most definitely.
Next time separate the grains, do them each differently and then mix them after there hydrated.

Ok. It sounds like there's definitely a problem with using exploded grains, something to do with the starch that has been released. So now I'm wondering what's wrong with the starch being there? I'll take a couple of guesses and you guys let me know if I'm on the right track.
a. Starch will increase the chances of contamination either pre or post-birthing.
b. Starch will gum things up so I can't shake the grains effectively.
Is this right?
BTW, great idea on simmering the grains separately. That would have saved me. If I mess up one, I still have the other.

hey dude, every time i make a batch of quinoa, they turn into little curls. they work fine and dandy.
not sure if that what you mean by exploded, and im not really too sure about the whole starch thing. but it doesnt make a lick of difference, that ive seen, if they are still balls or curls.

campinman,
Aside from the well-hydrated rye, little curls is exactly what I have, that and a bunch of goo. I think the curls are what's left of the quinoa hull and the goo is what was inside after getting mushy from the water. I rinsed all the goo away and I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens. I have a good bit more grain and 5 syringes, so if it goes wrong I can always try again.

My first grain attempts were mixed rye and quinoa but I never had any success... If you try it I'd simmer them seperatly. Its difficult to get the moisture content right like that... since I've moved to doing pure rye I've started having much better sucess... perhaps I'll go back to trying to mix them again later. but whatever let us know if it works for you. For me the mix ended up much to mushy and yeah, the grains take up different amounts of moisture so its no good simmering them together..
