It was posted over at Irevolution.info
Thought I'd post it here too.
It's probably old, but if you haven't seen it. Watch it...
I really do expect things like this to be more common in the future...

Are they allowed to block the streets like that? Were they on private property? They mentioned something about the Hilton Hotel. The only reason I ask is because it's important to question information like this when it is so biased, even if it is showing video footage from the perspective of police.

Are the streets of Portland private property?
And of course it's biased. EVERYTHING is biased.

Are they allowed to obstruct the roadways like that? Also, is that a fire? (look at the video when the trumpet solo is playing. It looks like a fire. Is that legal?)

No, I can't, I'm simply asking questions, likening American soceity to Nazi germany makes me seriously question the content of the video. It's still unclear to me as to whether or not protesters can obstruct roadways like that.

Public Place= No Expectation of Privacy... You and I can film walking down street, why can't cops? And then there's the whole legality of obstuction of streets, vandelism, etc... I'm not agreeing with the film at all, I'm just saying... We get protesters all the time in my area... and they usually are cool until someone does something stupid... Recently, protesters walked onto the freeway via onramp and walked along freeway, chanting. CHP showed up, and asked them to move over to the traintracks just yards away. Total compromise. Just move over a few fucking yards and you can shout up a storm. BUT NOOOOOOOOOOO. They refused to move off the freeway ( clearly posted no peds), and some were arrested. Then the protesters called foul. Bullshit.
This is America!! Do what you need to do, but be smart about it. Keep it on the D/L.
Peace

Why "CANT" cops, because they shouldnt, I would guess you dont read alot of Philosophy, or history.
If you did, this would, be, obviously WRONG. Think critically.
As for pulling people off the street ,people have a RIGHT to express their opinions.
Why are you first critical of the protesters?? I bet your Government LOVES you. All citizens should be critical of their government AND their police force, why??
Well its an esential part of Democracy, which BTW, started out well over 100's of years ago............, and they GOT IT.

During the 2004 Republican National Convention some 1800 protesters were arrested.
Charges were dropped in over 1600 of the cases.
They were filmed too.

They have a right to express thier opinions... I'll die protecting that right.
But they do not have the right to blatenly break the law. If I carry a sign and shout " Save the Whales", can I blow 5 people away, and then cry " Foul" when I'm arrested? Peaceful and Lawful Assembly..Not hiding behind thier signs.
And if you are so blind as to do something illegal, whatever it might be, in a public place, be aware there might be a witness. And there might be film at 11. If people choose to break the law during a protest, then they should shut up and take 1 for the cause. It was thier choice!!

I think that people who have something to say should say it in a peaceful way.

They have every right to protest. They have every right to question their government which they were doing. They have every right to make their point in anyway necessary as long as they bring no harm to others. They did not, it was the police that brought the harm. And why was that? Becasue the politicians in the hotel could hear the protesters from the hotel. They didn't like that and they let the police know they didn't like it and they police got rid of them.
And if you're only offense about this whole video is that "they were blocking a street", then you've got some major waking up to to, my friend.

You can't go around spouting off about shit unless you know it's true.
You see those morons in the video yelling at the police?
Total imbeciles.
What does that accomplish aside from making everyone else there look like a dick?

I'm sorry but that is the biggest cop out bull shit. We have no civil rights, what the masses demand does not happen, and there is no good option. We have as a country pissed off other countries all over the world, and act like the current administration is justified. Hell no. Nor is violence against peaceful protesters.
Furthermore, this is NOT individual police fuck ups. This is a well thought out strategy dictated as an order and carried out by foot soldiers. This is orchestrated, and if you can't see that, you are going to shit your pants when this shit goes into a police state. Or maybe you'll somehow be able to empathize with the military state.
If you don't stand up for something, you'll fall for anything.

The video didn't offend me in any way. LOL Again, specific instances can be debated all night. Truth is- if your in public, and you break the existing law that we have, you might get caught. Accept responsibilty for your actions. And "as long as it brings no harm to others" is such a broad term, the lawyers are gonna love that 1.
I'm first in line for free speach. And I really don't give a shit about cops or protestors, and the drama held therein. I stay home, vote when I get the chance, and if either one shows up on my property... Peace man.

Well, I have been to more protests than I could count at the moment, been a part of a majority of environmental groups that span the spectrum of levels of activity, I vote, I write my congress people. I testified at the clean air hearings, i have also participated in organized civil disobedience. Problem is the more you fight, the more they fight - Even if they agree with you.
I am standing up for the right of the masses to have their will represented in a democracy, not a big business running a government as a front.

What I won't fall for is propanganda from Either side. Police state here we come.. Tell me about it. If you don't like the US or it's GOV'T, then change it without adding to the problem. Or move the fuck out and live somewhere else. You'll find far worse out there in most of the world. BTW- anybody here ever been "helped out" by welfare, food stamps, free medical care, student grants? US citizens only need reply.

When every mode of communication is watched, and every meeting has a kinda weird guy hanging out and there is no where to go, and then we aren't so fucking content with our fleeting run at top of the shit heap, then maybe some people's minds will be opened. Things have not always been just like this. This is our reality, so we need to take it back.
And how exactly does change happen with out adding to a problem?

Maybe if you actually questioned the content of this "leftist propaganda video" instead of hanging on every fucking word you would actually realize that this is ONE side of the story, the side that likens America to Nazi Germany and displays pictures of pepper-sprayed babies to invoke emotions into gullible saps such as yourself (what kind of fucking moron brings a baby to an anti-war protest, there's no telling if it could turn riotous in which case the life of your child is in total jeopardy, not to mention the language used here).
Oh, yeah, the protestors were heard in the hotel so they fucking sprayed everyone. How the fuck do you know that? Because you heard it from a video made by an extreme leftist group that's still pissed off that they were forcefully removed from the middle of a fucking street during a protest? How do you know a bottle wasn't thrown anyway? They could have cut that footage out, and simply displayed the part where the plans were being made to respond to this attack.
All I'm saying is you should question the content because of it's sourse, instead of spouting off what you saw here as fact.

Change your world, change your gov't, change whatever you want to. But don't break the law and then whine.
Great change has occured in this county be the people standing up for what they believe in. Right On!! And people have changed the world by breaking the laws. Amen!! And we should encourage change, because nothing stands still.
But change has a price. Nothin's free. People die for change. You don't hear many widows cry foul. They believe that the sacrafice is worth it.
And if you choose, by your actions, to be the one that is paying the price, no matter the cost, then pay it, shut up, and shout "I'm changing the World". So many have done just that.
Otherwise, think alittle bit, and realize that no matter how unjust the current situation is, if you antagonize the situation in an unlawful way, you will be arrested.
And how many people are you gonna change in a jail cell.
Think. Act. Take Responsibility For That Action. And be proud that, here in America, you have that right.

Why do I have to be something to change it? Isn't that why we have a democracy? I am a scientist. I work for and in science. I have no desire to be an officer of the law. And, I think you wouldn't be hard pressed to find several officers that think that these are questionable actions by fellow officers.

Am I the only one here that thinks this video is a bunch of one-sided bullshit? Comparing Nazi Germany to current day US in this video made me laugh so hard you don't even understand! According to the video the government is just like the Nazi's but yet I don't see a thing the government is doing right now that Nazi Germany did.
Why was the bitch in the video stressing on the point of police video taping the crowd? So the secret police can pick em up later? Thats a bunch of crap. If your going to show up at a protest covering your identity of course they are going to keep an eye on you. Nobody knows what your intentions are or what your trying to hide from. Notice how they didn't focus on those not hiding their identity.
Don't get me wrong here. I'm all for exercising rights. But if I do remember correctly in high school I was taught that people do have the right to peacefully assemble but certain steps must be made to make it a legal protest and I'm 99.9% positive that wasn't a legal protest.

meh america is not like nazi germany.
sure the government is full of shit.
the way to change things is to talk with yur peers about issues like these and work them out legally and if enough people think that the government is wrong without being able to change it legally then they will have a revolution.

Screw that, I will NEVER vote for a woman for the presidency. Woman are too controlled by their emotions to trust ina situation like that.

That video was stupid. The police officers don't have the same emotion behind what they are doing, like the crowd does. Some of them probably agree with those people. They're just doing their job. When someone ends up murdered, the more film the better. Perhaps, the people in the masks are hiding for a reason. That girl's voice is so annoying.

" I'm 99.9% positive that wasn't a legal protest. "
I would bet that it was. If it wasn't, those people would have been arrested. You can have a protest just about anywhere anytime, on public grounds. You however CANNOT obstruct walkways, CANNOT be on an open street, CANNOT block entrances to buildings. Also, it is very courteous to inform the police of your gathering and what they can expect, ie. we agree to not verbally confront people, ect. This somehow ques them more likely to be fair to you.
In short, hundreds of cops in riot gear don't just show up, the police know and are usually informed by protesters before a protest. The point is to stay within your rights and keep everyone safe - even those you may oppose.

Honestly, The way that video was edited it could have gone down completely differently. They did not show any evidence of the police ONLY dispersing the crowd because the rich people were inside. If I understand the video correctly the president was inside, and the crowd looked like it was getting pretty worked up. they probably made them disperse to avoid any obvious security risks. A lot of people want to cap G-Dub.

That video was a well thought out depiction of authority and its hidden agenda, What that hidden agenda is, is unclear to me, but its something that I've felt when dealing with cops, cops seem to fall into two gears, friendly cop, being human; and ruthless power bullies ready to take down any form of resistance by using any justifiable means. If they feel something they don't like they manipulate the legal process to get the desired outcome; such as not reading your rights until after omission of guilt, or they can get very hostile on you with no reason other than their own interpretation of suspension which then they'll lie and manipulate to try to break you down for some nonsense and they make up excuse and say something like you were putting people in jeopardy. Yeah I'd never take the side those types of cops, GO PROTESTERS;
but wearing bandannas to cover their faces does make you look like gang bangers or a secret society, even though this may not be true, perception is reality

Oh I agree that cops have too much authority and that we probably ARE moving towards becoming a police state, but twisting facts, as this video appears to do, does not increase your credibility. I was not at all doubting the validity of the main idea of the video.
In reference to the video that anewway2sayhooray posted, http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6529813972926262623 , I think it is very well done. Makes Michael Moore's attempt at the same look clownish and not very well thought-out (As if it did not appear that way already .)

What facts were being twisted? I didn't see any bottles being thrown. I know its not good to assume but this girl emphasized that point clearly several times, I doubt that she was lying. And if the cops made up that story about the bottle then their the ones twisting the facts. I know its easy to assume that the tape was manipulated but for the bottle thing I'm leaning more towards the protesters just for the manner in which the instructions were given to move the crowd plus the fact that she kept reemphasizing that situation. Meaning she was pretty dam adamant about that particular incident, to me the specifics are important.

Well again, you are basing that statement on the video's narrative. What I am saying is that it IS entirely plausible that some facts in the video are twisted. The non-sequential footage of the riot breakup scene, for example. Also, this video presents no concrete evidence to support the statement that the reason the police broke up the crowd was because the noises were disturbing rich guests.

Look I'm sure the tape was manipulated to create a prospective; but the bottle being thrown was definite point of emphasis; she stated that this was the excuse given to the media by the police, nothing was said about the police doing this because of guests in the Hilton, in the manner in which the officer ordered the removal of this crowd seemed suspicious. It seem to be his premeditated motive to disperse this crowd using pepper spray, sticks and rubber bullets. The crowd did not seem to be very hostile to the point in which this amount engagement was necessary, in fact the guy holding up sign was minding his own business and some cop came up and took him down for no reason. This was definitely out of line I thought. It wasn't a great PR campaign for police so I can see them lying, trying to cover their tracks.

"but wearing bandannas to cover their faces does make you look like gang bangers or a secret society, even though this may not be true, perception is reality "
The fact we were seeing the police scan faces means the protesters obviously know that they are being watched. Information collection. More than any of us probably think. I went to the National rainbow gathering on year, and at the big circle main event, there were several police officers that showed up - doing nothing but video taping.
Some people have lives and careers, and don't want to end up having things held against them or like Frank Hampton. =/
And danlennon, I think its closer to 97% of people that don't mean shit. Its that top minority that owns the majority that laws are made and broken for.

I agree with that assessment, knowing first hand how cops are trained to be meticulous in which they can gather and derive information on the alleged perpetrators, in which in this case the protesters; more or less they are looking for clues in finding how this was organized, such as their emphasis on possible leaders. I know the protesters wearing bandannas knew this and I know the cops know why the protesters where wearing bandannas, to cover up their identity's but they still symbolize something else as well, they symbolize terror, anarchy, organization of hidden movement, possible threat of violence or a riot, just the paranoia having to wear a bandanna will draw on suspension, like this guys got something to hide.
