Morels in NH (pic)

Finally the mushroom season has begun here in New Hampshire. The spring had been fairly dry up untill about a week ago. We've gotten over a foot of rain and there's more on the way.
Found this in a fairly unlikely spot, as the habitat would not suggest morel growth. But a couple of years ago I composted somewhere around 50 pounds around my house. Which basically consisted of chucking a few handfuls here and there, and letting nature do the rest.

not the best looking specimen, but it's nice to know they are out.
saw around twelve species total. spring agrocybe, coprinus, peziza, sulfur tuft, pysthrella. to name a few. Also saw a bunch of this: pycnoporus cinnabarinus

have a good day everyone

you can find mushrooms mostly anywhere anytime of the year, but that doesnt mean they will be edible or active. Even if you dont find shrooms or edibles, searching for mushrooms will hone your skills, and get you ready for when the seasons come around.

They have a unique texture. Very meaty tasting. One of my favorite foods easily!

I have only eaten them a couple of times. butter, touch of garlic. I think I might have cooked them too long though, my friends that had some loved them.
Also at the time I was sorting through about 500 pounds a week, and thinking of the rotten bug infested ones, made me keep losing my appetite.
I lost the taste for most mushrooms after growing them. Visions of rotting compost, and overgrown bearshead.. turns my stomach everytime.
That won't stop me from hunting though.

I liked them with scrambled eggs a lot. At a camp out gathering in Ohio, some shroomerites cooked them up, and we all were able to eat some. They were awesome cooked that way!
