innoculating with spore prints...
    #563833 -

My friend heard that all you need to innoculate 1/2 pint jars with a print is to scrape off about a match head sized area into the jar. Is this correct? So would I be correct to say that his 2 1/2 inch diamter print could innoculate about 40 jars? Or would it be safer to just use 1/12th of the print on each jar? The reason why is that he doesn't want to spend more money on another print and was wondering if he could succesfully innoculate like 24 1/2 pint jars with his single print, instead of the 12 he was planning. So is it safe to use one print for 24 jars? BTW the print he got was from sporeworks and is pretty decent. thanks for the help.

is he not going to use a syringe? if he doesnt, he has a pretty good chance of contaminating his project.

no hes not going to use a syringe, he didnt know there was any higher chance to contaminate the jars, which he is sure but is confident in his abilities. So can he innoculate 24 jars off one print? Any problems with this?

as long as you are clean and working draft-free and possibly using the 'oven-tek' it works. i've done it a couple of times...

Using a syringe allows for easy multi-innoculation sites, usually 4. The way you are doing it, all in one spot, it will take longer for the cake to fully colonize.
