Polyfil alone with WBS?

I don't have any tyvek atm, but I do have an assload of polyfil. Am I risking a greater chance of contams if I only use polyfil in my WBS jar lids?
Anyone have experience using polyfil without the addition of a tyvek filter?

It'll work just watch out when shaking the jars as the poly-fil can get wet and wick contams through.
IMO tyvek is better.

Ah, well... I might just wait until my tyvek arrives from USPS then. Better safe than sorry.

I think agar has a great polyfill-in-tubes jar tek around here somewhere but I'm too stoned to use the search function right now. It makes the rounds. One polyfill'd tube and two RTV ports, IIRC.

I use Polyfil only, works fine to me. i never combine them both, or tyvek or polyfill. had almost no contams.

One 1/4" hole stuffed with polyfill is all I use for grain jars. Haven't seen a contam in ages. The whole "polyfill wicking contam" thing is really being beat to death, it's not an issue in my experience.

Agreed. Sometimes I'd use coffee filters over that as a dust cover. I've moved to a triple layer of micropore tape. Got tired of cutting all those little pieces of polyfill!

Is it necessary to use tyvek and poly-fill. Cuz i've seen a video where they just use aluminum foil to cap off the top of the jars for contams. Also the USPS things(envelopes) is the same thing as tyvek just for free? Also i have jars in which I have 4 holes in the lids for inoculation points. Do you think i can still use these lids and use like duct tape to tape off the holes and then drill a 1/4" hole in the middle? Also what is micropore tape and where do you get it at?
Thanx

you can choose: tyvek or poly-fil. one or the other. aluminum foil is not a reliable contam barrier, nor is it breathable.
for your pf lids, you can just drill a 1/4 in hole and you're fine. place a layer of tyvek under the lid.
the USPS envelopes you want are priority mail and express mail. look for the little tyvek logo by dupont. yes, they are free.
micropore tape can be had at any pharmacy or at wal-mart. at the pharmacy you buy micropore. at wal-mart it is sold as nexcare gentle paper tape in a blue dispenser.
good luck with grains.

Where in wal-mart is the micropore(nexcare gentle paper tape) tape sold? by the description you said nexcare i'm thinking by the pharmacy, the tape that you would use for like to tape a piece of gauze to you. but paper tape i would think its with the office supplies. Also what is the micropore tape used for? Sorry i'm a newbie to grains. i've done BRF before so grains is a little different. also you have any links to any good grains(WBS is what i'm going to be using) teks that could really help me out?
Thanx for the help.

the nexcare can be found in the medical tape/bandage section.
micropore is used as a substitute for poly-fil and tyvek.
it is also used to tape an injection hole that is made through the tyvek. That is what I use it for sometimes.
link... hold on... didn't we talk about this before? I guess I would have the same thing to say. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5634212/an/0/page/3
Someone else will chime in though. FooManShroom has an easy soak and simmer tek.
