Lucid dream, was I almost there?

Not really about drugs, but the experience was kinda psychedelic.
I have read a bit in the past about lucid dreaming/being in control of one's dreams. I have tried in the past but nothing ended up happening (I admit I wasn't very patient). I put it out of mind for a while, until I could maybe get my own place and be more focused.
Then last night, I felt very comfortable going to sleep. I could really feel myself going down into a dream. I suddenly found myself in a large field with this strange metalic tower structure in front of me. It was probably about 10 stories tall. The grass was taller on the far side of it, and I could hear what I knew to be my friend's voice on the other side of it, talking to someone. I suddenly realized that something about this was unreal, and it triggered my memory of lucid dreaming. I thought to myself, "this is it! I have recognized I am in a dream and now I can do anything I want!" So what's the first thing I do? I try to fly of course . I decided to go find my friend, and I began to hover off the ground. My legs felt numb and tingling. I was now a good 5-10 feet off the ground, but rising rather slowly...too slowly. I could feel my conscious mind taking over, and I quickly realized I had jumped the gun. I got so excited over controlling my dream that I was snapping out of it. A moment later I was back in my bed, with my legs still tingling.
Anyone got any advice on perhaps a way to recall this dream to bring my mind into a similar state? or some good links about lucid dreaming?

That's what happens when you have your first lucid dream, you get too excited and you wake up. There are several techniques to prevent this, I don't remember them all since it has been years since I was into lucid dreaming but try spinning around. Look at the ground and just spin. Or keep your eyes closed, which ever suits you, but spin. For some reason this works and prevented me from slipping away from a dream many times. Good old Google should come up with many sites with more in-depth guides and tips.

well first thing you got to learn is how to remember a few dreams a night. don't go on until you can do that cause whats the point of having lucid dreams if u cant remember them. If u do find yourself in one concentrate on something like your hand as long as you can without getting distracted. This will train u to stay longer. And the spinning thing works great(called spinning dreams) for when you losing it.

Try to stay awake until the very moment you fall asleep. Sounds kind of no duh but it's tricky.

I'll vouch for spinning. Put your arms out like an airplane and spin around as fast as you can. With this technique you can remain in a lucid dream indefinitely. Every time you feel yourself waking, simply spin around as quickly as you can and for some reason you will be reset into dreamland.

it's called the WILD method Wake induced lucid dreaming.
like i said before its best to sleep 5 hours and then try this., go to bed relax get ready for sleep . and basically what this is is staying conscious through the hypnagognic state in which you will experience hypnagognic hallucinations nd sleep paralysis. so basically try breathing exercises, imageine your self walking up stirs and try counting exercises see what works for you

I was actually just having a crazy dream which was a failed attempt at a lucid dream. It was about a very strange video game which I was a character in, involving many completely different styles of gameplay and content... I remember being on a train for a level, being a bird for a level, building a factory, having to outsmart a plotting politician... to name a bit of it.
Interestingly enough it had absolutely nothing to do with the subject I was trying to induce into the dream (I don't think). I was trying to go to sleep in such a way that I could sleep with a girl who I had not in waking life- haha kind of a funny motive, but I'm curious and I don't want to cheat on my girlfriend!
As I was trying to get to sleep I was not picturing any sex to have happened yet, I was only imagining being with the girl and the conversation we were having that would lead into the situation. I realized I was about to dream because suddenly we were in a room I had not consciously imagined, but I noticed it too sharply and this kicked me out of the dream initiation.
Thinking back to other times when I have caught on to dream precursors, it seems when I am about to enter a dream I often begin to feel personality division. (makes sense if my mind has to make room for all the dream characters!)
Two other ways I can tell I am close to dreaming are:
Hearing voices of familiar people calling to me as if from afar, when I "mentally respond" with my internal dialog they will respond back with subconsciously generated medium.
Hearing "sound turn off", it sounds almost like a clicking when it stops, I do not believe it has a sound to begin with, but all noise in the room disappears.
Unfortunately neither of these techniques have helped me enter lucid dreams because they all pull me back into consciousness...

Yes, this is the only method that has worked for me. Very trippy, but the sleep paralysis is kind of scary

try astral.. seems that many ideas listed herein are astral methods. shamans and curanderos go astral, for healing and such... i think many people get the 2 confused. if your gonna waste years of your life learning how to induce it... atleast learn somthing with more... mmm, maybe breadth, is the wrong word . jmho :* ^

Often my alter ego, who lives in Mexico speaks on my behalf frequently. Also, just remember, I'm schizophrenic... and so am I. I plea insanity! I didnt do it!
