MD caerulipes

Found uphill from a small, fast brook, flowing into a large river along boggy ground.
High canopy cover was about 50 %, elm and Acer spp. (box elder, red maple), with a lower canopy of spicebush, fruiting in thick and tall stinging (wood) nettle (Laportea canadensis), garlic mustard, grasses, jewelweed etc.
Ground is rich with woody detritus and chunks / logs, not sandy, pretty mucky.
Slight bluing is less evident in pictures.
Spores are dark brown with purplish hue.
Odor is mild, but the expected smell is present.
As I walked along the path, believing habitat to be unsuitable, I asked two canadian geese w/ goslings if I would find the mushrooms ahead, and the male gave two vigorous head noddings. I also saw muskrat and an adolescent fox not far from the mushrooms.
Better and habitat pics to follow-

They all look like caerulipes to me but it would be wise to print them all if you haven't already done so.

Nice find lIXII. That's a good dose you have there.
I stopped looking under spicebush, because I only seemed to find Pluteus under it. Bluefoot amazes me. I search for it for years with no success, and now I find it everywhere. I'm glad you found them man. And I'm glad you found the shroomery.

Cyanescens will bruse blue and have a wavy cap like those. But! Do not take my word for it and study Cyanescens befor you even think of eating those. There are alot of Cyanescen look-a-likes that are deadly!

Very cool that you found some in MD. I'm about 5 mins from the state line.

I have like 20-30 pics of them still on my camera. I'm gonna try and hit the camera shop today or tomorrow to find a new UBS cable, so I can get them uploaded.

Be sure ALL your mushrooms turn blue after several hours and have the correct spore color(stick with that PURPLISH hue to eliminate probs.) for Psilocybe......you can have DEADLY shrooms TOUCHING Caerulipes which can look identical !!!
Great descripts and pics.....and classic 'NATURAL' habitat occurence for that species with Acer negundo a major indicator for preffered habitat

Shroomydan, thanks to your finds and habitat descriptions for injecting a new zest into my hunt for these!
Eris, have you found any in your area (I'm assuming northern border w/ MD) ?
*Location info a bit too specific, suffice to say that these guys/gals are out there (ask the geese), although I have only observed them in scattered (not-dense) patches in various areas.
Thanks to all for advice. These are all the same species, I have been mushroom hunting for 7 years or more, and while still relatively unexplored amongst the vast fields of knowledge applicable to the subject, I can very well ID Galerinas, Cortinarius, Conocybe etc. as well as accurate genera ID in general, at least.
BTW, these mushrooms bruise a very dark (blackish) color where stems are damaged (blue is visible here, but darkens very rapidly, esp. upon drying), and blue mostly as a general tint on young pilei.
* also, not to add to the confusion of 'hopeful' collections, but not all of the individual mushrooms show obvious (blue) oxidation reaction

Not cyanescens. They are smaller than the ones pictures, and stalkier. The stems on these are rather long to be cyanescens.

I wonder where the P. cyanscens comments came from?
Found a patch quite far eastward, elevation ~ 300 ft
A large individual, over 7cm cap diameter

ShroominDole-
I just read a post that you made concerning the abiotic factors (hurricane) relating to fruiting occasions / durations of this species. This sounds like some involved and long term study, is this based on colonies of human-produced substrate?? Also, are there any references for data such as this ?
