I don't know if your point holds its ground. People like reading about serial killers, would it be better to be one? People like talking about dying, do they want to die now? Some things are fun to learn, but aren't neccessarily something I want to pursue for my life. Personally, I like reading about every drug and I definetly would not have tried some of the ones I enjoy reading about.

I find it tellng that both of your examples are exceedingly morbid, whereas mine (at least th rain and the sex examples) stem from similar human motivational drives as the one to do drugs. Drugs are generally pleasurable and tend to ontribute to one's growth as an individual. The same can be said of sex (well, the individual growth thing goes more with mate selection than sex, but the two are intertwined)..

Murder, on the other hand, infringes severely upon the basic rights of others and is not usually pleasurable (to the stable mind) nor does it tend to contribute to personal growth. And dying is generally considered to be the ultimate end to any personal growth, nor is it generally considered to be pleasurable. (Though people interested in death can seek the experiential equivalent through drugs such as DMT or ketamine if they're truly interested in it).

If you read about murderers, you probably become quite familar with the human suffering they engender. If you read about death... well, that's just pretty morbid, I'm not sure what you come out of that with. And if you read about drugs, then you probably inevitably become aware of the nearly limitless potential they have for unlocking creativity and personal developement. There's obviously very different sets of motivations at work here.

And of course I realize that not all drugs are for all people. Meth, for example, I stay away from (not because I percieve it as a negative drug, I just know that it'd be way too good and I could easily find myself addicted). Scopolamines I stay away from because I don't want to wander around in a fevered fugue for a couple days and wake up maimed or in the custody of law enforcement. But I find it hard to believe that someone inerested in and educated about drugs doesn't see a single drug that's worth their personal exploration for one reason or another.

I'm not trying to attack here by any means, I'm just curious as to why someone educated about the manifold potential benefits of drugs would not want to utilize any of them. On the other hand, I'll admit that I'm significantly biased against sobriety as an unproductive state of mind.
