Death in dreams

For the past year, I've greatly improved my dream recall, lucid abilities and ability to have fun with almost every night. I have a list of things to try in my dreams and there are times when I can remember them while dreaming and other times I can't. One of the most vivid and strange dreams was where I made myself get attacked by a headcrab (from the game Half Life) and turn into a zombie. I felt very very different and its really hard for me even to interpret.
Anyway something I haven't been able to do until last night was die without instantly waking up. There were strong thunderstorms last night, and as I've come to find out, thunder can have adverse affects on dreams. I wasn't lucid, but I was in a large building and everyone is worried because the power just went out. Then there were loud noises and everyone says it sounds like insane thunder and lightning. Then over a loudspeaker, some guy announces that it isn't thunder, but "the end". He starts to cry and then walks away. Suddenly everyone is gone, and I am standing alone with another girl. We look face to face and around this time I start to realize that its nuclear winter, and the thunder sounds were nukes being dropped. I lay down, and wait for it to hit. I remember my last thoughts being trying to figure out who was doing the attack, and decided it was China. Then, everything goes white, and I'm left with a loud ringing sound in my ears, and what felt like blood rushing intensely throughout my body. I was in that state for what felt way too long. After a little bit, the body swelling faded, and I couldn't feel anything. I couldn't even see anything anymore. I could still hear ringing and some kind of loud wind noise which I thought was the carnage of the bomb. All that time that I was dead, I don't recall having a single thought. I felt completely dead. Then it all faded to black, and I awoke with a crash of lightning, sweating bullets.
It wasn't nightmarish, but I think I was honestly terrified like I never had been by a dream. I experienced what I thought were my last moments and everything afterwards. The dream sounds goofy now that I explain it, but when have they ever made perfect sense? I'm taking death off "to do" list of dreams. I guess everyone that can control their dreams should try it at least once though.

Cool experience. The dream world is great.

Oh I forgot to tag a question along with this to get some discussion.
Do you think that its possible to represent real death with a dream? I mean, down to the feelings and gradual loss of senses that I experienced. Do you think its possible that now that I've felt what I thought was death, that it won't be a suprise when it really does occur? I've had dreams such as what it feels like to bungee jump, and then going out and trying it, and it felt exactly as I recall it from the dream. So I think that it might be possible that my feeling of death may be similar to how it will actually feel (or not feel).

every feeling that you can have in life, you have already felt at one point in time, therefore when dead comes...it will bring fond memorys and your dieing moments won't be as horrid as you might think..there's more to this but im having trouble explaining it...ill add more if it comes to me

That was a very thundering dream, thank you!
And it was not goofy.
Earlier this spring I had a dream in which I died like you did; I didn't start to die and then wake up, I died and persisted in some intelligent sense after experiencing bodily death. It felt natural, cleasning, sensible... sentient .... but I really can't describe it. I can only bide this experiential, omni-synaesthetic revelation.
If I knew more about you I might have a clearer intuition to divine your dream with.
Take care in and of your perceptions.

Nice thread, I just had a 'death dream' this morning.
We were in a drug dealers car, going somewhere safe so we could make the deal. Anyway, she turned around and shot me in the face. It's goddamn scary.
Then there's that struggle where you have to force yourself to wake up in real life. Not nice at all.

I've had a couple, when I was like 12-14 this certain one repeated about 3x a month for about a year. So I walk into this gas station (one that i have gone to in real life) with my grandma, she's paying for gas and I browse for some snacks in the aisles. Someone runs in firing shots, I can't tell if my grandma's alright cuz i drop to the floor, i hear him yellin to open the register, then i hear the bell on the door jingle again then a vicous snarling and shots fired again, I stand up and some wierd creature kind of resembling alien and see it throw the lifeless robber against the wall, he immediatly looks at me and come jumping over the aisles as I scurry away, it picks me up and throws me out the window, then for some reason I jus kept fallin for like hundreds of feet, then I see the concrete approaching fast, then smack I jump out of my sleep sweating bullets.

i think you can since delta sleep is close to death, though delta is before REM perhaps you could push yourself back into it and have a NDE.
i've sort of negated myself in a dream before, kinda scary but what could I do? The ground collapsed beneath me and nothing was below it, so as falling I disappeared while falling and tried to pull myself back up, because other people were there, but they couldn't pull me.
so i fell.
and i was in a black void, pretty scary, but manageable, and i had the understanding that from this void, I could be and had the power to be anyone that I wanted.
this corresponded to the future, I smoked some potent herb at a party a while later and my ego collapsed, but instead of into myself it was into the TV, because everyone was watching TV..... i had quite the bad trip because I couldn't collapse into myself or some relaxing music, but rather all the negativity and whatnot.... so that left with a constant resistance and yet acceptance, all I could was sit and endure some terrible things that my mind was pondering.
really awful things.

Om Namah Shivaya, I tell you What!

Ever seen that flick "Waking Life"? They show an individuals perspective of how real life itself is just a dream, but they do it in a trippy animation. A lot of the animations they try to depict somehow can easily be drawn to relate personal experiences. Good Thread!

I died in a dream. I crashed a car into a wall and then the screen went blank like the white screen at the end of a movie. It wasn't very profound or anything. It wasn't scary, and I didn't die for real as some say will happen.

Yes I disagree with the fact that you "Die in real life" if you die in a dream. I have had a dream where I inflicted a gunshot wound to the head for the sole purpose of dying. (As the SWAT team was at my door) It was bizarre in the fact that everything went black and I was falling forward (sort of like doing flips in the darkness) saying aaaahhhhhhh (which is what woke me up - me saying that IRL as well) That was one of my stranger dreams that I have had. I have a good handful that make me say Hmmmmmmmm. -Me

A previous posters mention of dreaming through a screen reminds me of a dream that ended with me walking out of my house, looking to my right to see a lil more than a meter high Spinosaurus. After gazing the creature my dream ran through what looked like movie credits
A dream where I felt the event of dying was of crawling through a dungeon to a point where the room is like a + shape of squares so I walk across the middle square to check one of the other sections out. as soon as my feet touch the floor I realize if a plate that descends into a spike trap where I felt incredibly cold liquid pool out of me. After a short moments fade to darkness I learn what it is to wake up in a cold sweat, I was drenched. Months/years later when I went to complete the last guild I had to do in Oblivion, the fighters guild, I had my most unsettling case of deja vu when I seen the same dungeon in their quest line.
