Hi...I'm new to this mushroom hunting and message board...I've been gathering mushrooms and am trying to identify them...I have about 5 or 6 different species (i think) and a book on how to identify them, but I'm having a hard time distinguishing them apart. Does anyone have any advice to help me? I live in Kentucky, if that makes any difference to anything and got the mushrooms from fields with cows and/or horses.

I am actually a beginner hunter myself. I think the best way to approach mushroom hunting is to first learn the general anatomy of a mushroom. I don't know what field guide or book you picked up, but one of the first chapters will most likely explain the different parts. I'm realizing that the more you understand about the mushroom, the easier it becomes to find and ID them. Understanding the "lingo" will also help to explain specific features of a mushroom, thus allowing for a more accurate ID from the more experienced hunters on the forum.
But like I said, I'm new to this myself, some maybe the pros can back me up.
BTW, welcome the shroomery! There are tons of people on these boards with loads of knowledge...stay and learn.
