Our Beloved Castaneda

An avid Castaneda fan, doing my darndest to realise the Toltec Warriors Dialogue (perhaps an impossibility), have come to think our great leader is the great fraud so many articles evidentially claim. An upsetting realisation indeed. Please prove me wrong. Restore Castaneda to his place as Nagual. Validate don Juan once more.

A philosophy does not need validating. The facts are unimportant if the practice bears fruit. Castaneda was a man and he was flawed. He was not a leader of any sort, much less OUR leader...come on. I will tell you that Nagualism was/is a tradition of Central America for over a thousand years and that Castaneda interpreted it for the masses. Was every thing he said solid fact? No. Castaneda was an allegorist. It is fact that he trained for several years with a Mexican shaman if that makes you feel better. The foreword of "A Yaqui Way of Knowledge" started "This book is both ethnography and allegory". Take it to heart. If the physical facts needed to be substantiated every religion on Earth would be invalidated. Don't worship this guy...he was a good writer...not a messiah or guru. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=Forum11&Number=5625288&page=1&fpart=1

A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

Here we go again, quoting someone elses quotes. Ive read all the castaneda books several times, as well those by Florinda, Taisha.. You sound like a slightly more forgiving Victor Sanchez. You are right however with your little fruit-bearing story. If Castaneda is anything of a teacher, then why all the lies and lies to cover lies that will haunt him long after tensegrity is proven to cause nothing more then arthritis.

I agree strongly with this. I know I could have found Castaneda's teaching/techniques in other places but his dynamic story telling hooked me like nothing else. Now that I know the background it doesn't matter at all; in fact it reminds me of the Coyote I love so much. I have validated some of the techniques in my own life experience and that cannot be faked. I've been reading these books for 30 years and they are more powerful to me than ever.
You don't need anyone but yourself to follow. Do that and everything you need will come to you.
