How many jars to use.
    #563922 - 02/26/02 03:15 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

I am going to be use the Aluminum baking trays and the 50/50 tek. I was wondering what the optimal amount of jars to put in each tray was. I am aware that I should make the layer about 1" deep, with a little smaller casing layer above and below it.

I just wanted to hear from some experienced growers so I could get some good results, as well as plan how many jars to innoculate and when to do so.

Well, let's say you use 1 cup of rye with 3/4 cup of water as your substrate and sterilize that in 1 pint jars. One of those would be enough for one bread pan.

Two half pint BRF cakes work well also in a 6"x8" tray.:peace:

1 cup rye per 1 pint? Hmm, seems a bit too much rye if you ask me. You won?t be able to shake it.

One cup of rye for a pint is too much. Jar will be stuffed and you won't be able to shake it. It will still colonize but will take longer. 1/2 cup- is better for a pint jar
