the stuff for beer making...how do you think this grain would do compared to others?

I have found that it doesn't work as well as regular unmalted barley or rye berries. See my earlier test with various grain here-

Seems much more prone to contaminations. Think it may have something to do with the fact that when you heat up this type of modified grain, you activate the enzymes, which in turn start to convert starch into sugars.
And the excess sugar makes conditions very favorable to bacteria.

It's also more expensive and harder to get in comparison to regular grain.

On the other hand if you can get a hold of some leftover malt after they have used it for beer (think they call it "spent grains")and compost it with some poo or hay...that makes an awesome substrate .

WARNING: Because of the high level of lactic bacteria present during the composting phase, this stuff STINKS to high hell for a week or so!!!!! Smells like rotten milk!
