Addictions
    #5638335 - 05/16/06 04:43 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I have two addictions right now that are completely unhealthy:

1.  Nitrous

I do way too much of this stuff.  There are nights when I will do 30-40 nitrous canisters.  I ordered 600 of them and they are mostly gone.  It only took about two weeks for this to happen.  I just like the stuff too much.  On top of that, I have a friend that works at a restaurant and he is allowed to fill up BIG tanks of nitrous.  He is going to try to get a tank.  If this happens...kiss my IQ goodbye.

2.  The computer

I go in phases with my computer/internet addiction.  There will be a few weeks where I go out and have a life.  I will go to shows, hang out at bars, do stuff with friends, etc..

But, inevitably I always get drawn back to the computer.  I start ignoring my outside life a lot, making no effort to see other people, and I sit on this machine all day long.  I can't even begin to fathom how many hours I have spent on the Shroomery.

I think it stems from the fact that I am usually shy in real life.  Sometimes I get a "social" bug in me and when that happens I do well in populated environments.  But, oftentimes social interaction requires effort for me and when it seems too difficult I just find it easier to interact on the computer.

Computer interaction has caused me to meet some really cool people.  But, it has also interfered with my life a hell of a lot.

I'm hooked and I don't know what to do.  :frown:

you seem fine to me.  Just lay off  the nitrous.

I've been trying to quit painkillers for a while.  Just recently, a company sent me over 300 ultram by mistake.

So I just let them sit there.  My friends are slowly relieving me of their charge

I've eaten a couple, but not many.  Its funny man, sometimes the second you decide you don't want something is when you can have it.

so my advice to you is to develop your Will.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law.

And love is the law, love under will.

you should take a vitamin B supplement if you're doing that much nitrous.

Your computer addiction doesn't sound that bad to me. It's certainly no worse than mine. As long as you go out and socialize every now and then, it's nothing to worry about. For the nitrous, I find it near impossible to resist it when I have it, but when I don't there's no urge to go out and get it. Just tell yourself that when you run out, you're not going to buy anymore. I usually reserve nitrous for special occasions, like Shroomery gatherings.

Randal just lay of the nitrous a bit, I wouldn't worry about the computer addiction, I do the same thing, there are weeks that I'll go out there are weeks I stay in, but I'm always here, I check the boards at the very least twice a day, I'm always on IRC and MSN and AIM just in case I miss something or someones looking for me. Sometimes I miss this place and wonder whats going on if I'm not here (unless its at a gathering, then I know I'm not missing something because we're all there anyways). I still think I lead a totally normal life tho.
