HOLY SHIT $$$ DOMAIN SELLING ADVICE. APPRAISE

1. I own a domain due to an old client I had. 2. The client broke the contract. 3. A different company wants to buy the name. 4. The domain is like a 1800xxxxxxx.com where the x's are the words associated with the phone number.
Problem: I have no idea how much to ask for the name.
Advice? I don't want to be greedy, but at the same time, I'm broke right now... So, I'd like to find a nice price somewhere in the middle that is fair to them, yet make a few bucks, since I've been holding onto and paying for the domain name.

I honestly couldnt say.
But in my business, if we are really in the dark as to what a company is willing to pay for our goods, we will come right out and just ask them if they have a target price in mind.
If you want to make them sweat a bit, maybe drop in that you have another offer on the name also.
hope that helps

Right, its not uncommon to say, "What price range are you looking to spend".
When I would go to buy jewelery (before I became freinds with the shop owner) the sales person would always ask me how much I wanted to spend.
The reason was becuase he/she didn't want to waste their time showing me a 5k diamond when all I wanted was 1k.
Don't be afraid to come out and ask.
You may also want to go to www.buydomains.com and find other domains that are like yours. See what they're selling for.
Good luck, Lana

Thanks to for everyone's input.
In asking different people as well, I have been informed that godaddy offers domain name appraisals.
The plan for me:
E-mailed and asked if the prospective customer had a target price in mind. Informed him that I would need a few days to survey the domain market before accepting or denying an offer.
Now, is the waiting game. When I receive his reply, if it is extremely low, I will simply tell him I am not interested and see if he offers more.
When/if a decent price is offered, I will have the domain appraised to find out if the offer is fair or not. And either accept the deal, or haggle from there.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO SELL YOUR DOMAIN, HAVE IT APPRAISED FIRST!
I can post more details after the negotiations are over, however, I received an offer back from the gentleman who had e-mailed me. He offered me a price that looked pretty good, so I decided to have the domain appraised... the appraisal came back with an estimated value of 10x-25x the original offer price.

Anyways, i've got to go pass out from hypervenilation!

be careful with believing web appraisals. in reality it is only worth what you can get someone to pay for it.

Yes, i know... but this will at least give me more negotiating room, at least when the "certified" appraisal comes back in which godaddy actually has someone look at it in addition to running their algorithm to analyze the name.
I'm just excited because i had no clue as to possible value this morning, got an offer higher than i expected, then an appraisal MUCH higher than expected...
I remain steadfast in my desire not to get greedy...

You may want to ask yourself, "Has anyone else offered to buy the domain".
If over the past few years you've owned this domain and no one offered to buy it, then it may not be too popular. The reason I say this is becuase appraisals are often a little high.
Think of real estate .... many properties have a different market price than appraisal price.
Let us know how it works out.
