whats this shit?
    #5637041 - 05/16/06 11:17 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

i have ten fully colonized quart jars of equador strain on 2 parts rye one part birdseed and the mycelium was a rhizomorphic sector isolated on agar and grown out in one pint jar then transfered to the ten jars of virgin grain. i have noticed that some of the jars exibit the slightest (i mean barely even noticeable) pink tint to certain small areas of the mycelia. this is an awesome strain, the quart jars were colonized in about 4 days at room temp from not a very high amount of spawn. the jars are generating alot of their own heat however, as they feel warm to the touch. has anyone seen this pink tint before? is it dangerous. its alot of spawn to waste especially since it is such a fast colonizing batch and i have no more of the original agar dishes left. any advice or insight would be greately appreciated.

sorry i dont have a pic to post but even if i took one u wouldnt be able to see the tint its so faint. a newb might not even notice.

It's mold. Quart jars inoculated by grain to grain at less than a ten percent ratio will not fully colonize in four days at room temp. I use a bit over a ten percent ratio and it still takes a week to ten days to colonize a quart jar of grains.
