Hey. I would rather avoid overlay, if i incubate for a week, i usually have TONS of white spots.... at 2 days, with small white fluffy spots, would it be bad to fruit? If so, what is a good length for this mixture? Thanks!

This was cased after taking the pic
That is a fully colonized case, near perfect, I think

coir colonizes fast. 60%coir is a lot of nutrients, that casing could colonize 100% easy. I would guess that you would want to go to fruiting earlier to allow the casing be a casing and not just more substrate.

So would i throw something like that directily into fruitng without overlay? I tried that before and all the white mycelium just turns a brown gold pre-pin color and never pinned for a week, then i put a little overlay over the whole thing (like a second pre-fruiting recase) and they pinned, but somne take FOREVER. I want to trow them in before thtey cvolonize on top of the casing. would that not work as well?

his bowls were cased after taking those pictures.
are you asking if you can introduce a casing to fruiting conditions without it beginning to colonize the casing layer?

I put a 50/50 casing layer on and this was the result

It takes as long as it takes....

anyways, what I would do is at the two day mark with the small white spots:
introduce to fruiting conditions. With less coir I might wait a tad longer, but not much.

those big fluffy spots i usually patch just a little bit so i'll have mycelium poking up as evenly as possible then i fruit it.

60/40 verm coir is not a casing prep. If you insist on using coir instead of peat, better make it 60/40 verm coir per the tek. RR

Also use a thinner casing layer 1/4-3/8" mist down to near saturation and then cold shock over night in the fridge then place directly into the FC. See how this works for ya. If it still rips through early then bump the layer depth to 1/2" you'll get that timing down in no time!

Some term correction here. I meant patching by overlay...
So heres what i gather... Make casing w/ like 1/4 - 1/3 inch casing mixture, incubate for about 3-4 days until i see a few fluffy white pots poking through all over. LIGHTLY patch those small white spots, mist heavily with wtaer, and put in hte fridge for 24hrs, then take out, mist, and put in fruitng chamber. Right?
What i WAS doing is this: Casing, then waiting 6-8 days for entire casing to be white on top (super overlay) then patch the entire thing (like a second casing layer) and ive fucked myself there (no pins, or take fuckin forever, prolly cause it has to break through that exrta layer w/o being in fruitng.
NEXT QUESTION (no no, im NOT done yet, thx for your patience) Should i take these anoying non-complient casings in fruitng chamber(the ones that were totally white that i patched the entire thing like a second casing layer), then incubate them againt ill the white pokes through a little, then LIGHTLY patch the FEW SPOTS, fridge those suckers for 24hrs, then throw back in fruiting?
OMG one post can make me feel like a n00b again! At least i got the terminolgy between overlay\patching back in order, i knew it, but got twisted up along the way, lol.
