OK, i'm trying to determine whether this is a myth or not. While researching this online, i keep reading that it's disputed whether this is real or not.
I believe i witnessed ball lightning for the first time a few days ago. It was just before a thunderstorm and there was regular lightning approaching in the distance. Then i looked toward the storm clouds again and saw these two white round lights. They were really far away and at first i thought it was two white birds flying (and i suppose it may still have been), but i didn't see wings flapping and there are no usually no white colored birds in this area at all. So i was following these two white spots against the dark storm clouds, and then they just disappeared. They seemed to keep the same altitude in the air the entire time, i'm guessing about 1000 feet up. Has anyone else seen ball lightning, and would this be consistent with that phenomenon?

I am pretty sure it is not a myth, as I have seen them a couple of times, I think. When I was a child, we used to live on the edge of town. There was a large field across the street with a high voltage line running along the fence line. Three or four times, over ten years or so, I saw what matches the description of ball lightning in the field across the street. Only happened when there was a thunderstorm moving through the area. (I donno if the high voltage lines had anything to do with it or not, but we were within walking distance (few kilometers) of the power plant.)

I think i could have seen it once during a really bad electrical storm close to dawn while chilling on a friends balcony looking out toward the Atlantic ocean. It could have been a plane i suppose but i doubt a plane would be flying that close to the storm.
I've also made ball lightning in my microwave. That was pretty cool and the hum it makes is creepy.

It was either ball lightning or a UFO recharging it's batteries.

I'm pretty sure I've seen it a couple times when I was standing in an open field. (I live in the lightning capital of the world)
Lots of wierd lightning around here. Heat lightning everday during the summer. If you go somewhere really dark it'll be as bright as day for the duration of the flash, literally.
