WBS Procedure w/ jars

OK I've done this before with BRF. but this is my first time attempting to do it with WBS. It seems like every tek I've seen on this site shows that for the jars you need to use tyvek, filter paper, ect. , or what ever and then with like a big hole in the middle of the lid. My question is would it be fine to use jars that have 4 pin hole for the needle for inoculation and just put 2 layers of tin foil over it like with BRF? or do I have to use tyvek and all that other shit? and why do they use the tyvek and all the other shit cuz it seems easier with tinfoil.

i think the tyvek allows for air exchange, so it colonizes faster

tyvek is a contam filter.
with your brf jars the dry vermiculite is the contam layer.
no dry vermiculite in wbs jars.
wbs jars are to be shaken so no dry verm layer will work.
here are your choices for a contam filter:
poly-fil (cheap at wal-mart) tyvek (free at post office (priority mail envelopes)) micropore tape (cheap at all pharmacies and at wal-mart) filter disks (not so cheap at sporeworks and others)
you need to have one of these.
the 2 coffee filters are dust covers and something to write on when they are inoculated.
tin foil will not allow gas exchange and a contam barrier. tin foil is only for keeping the pressure cooker water out of the jars.
drill one 1/4 hole in the center of your brf jar lids and than use it.

if you no longer plan to do pf jars just silicon teh 4 holes. use one as in inoculation site put a bigger hole in the middle or just enlarge one of the 4 preexisiting holes and put a layer of micro spore tape over (pharmacy with the bandaids.) thats what i did.

i had bad results with microspore tape. i had a perfect 1 1/2 pint jar of BRF, that slowed down. I thought it was dues to lack of air exchange and ONE DAY after i replaced my duct tape with microspore i got contams at the top of the jar. i began to think that it was contemned all along and thats why the growth was slowing down but when i opened the jar i saw that the contam was only at the top. that was my one and only experience with microspore tape
