Grain selection

Just last week I have recieved my used All American 25 Quart Pressure Cooker. What a monster. I can't wait to use it but I was just wondering what would be the best type of grain to use. So far, I have only grown from cakes but am stoked to move up to grains and perhaps spawning. I have heard that millet based birdseed and rye work good but what are the pros and cons of each of them and any other grains that work well with psilocybe cubensis. Considering price, accessibility, and quality, which one would be the best choice to go with?

well if you live in the country and have feed stores i htink id go with rye beucase it would be eazy to get and cheap. if you don't go pick up a 40 pound bag of wild bird seed. something that is low or no sunflour seeds and that doesn't say anytihng about fungucides on the bag.

Grain, like a lot in this hobby is preference based.
The three main grain that are used are WBS/Rye/Mix.
The main thing you are looking for is organic and NO pesticides or fungicides.
Keep it cheap, no reason to pay top self or anything like that.
I happen to like Rye.

But I am also finishing up some WBS

Bird Ration WBS from Wal-Mart. A 4 lb. bag is only $0.94. Cheap, effective, and always available.

Sunflower seed content is completely irrelevant. I have never, nor will I ever, remove the sunflower seeds.
Agreed on the fungicides. Also, stay from anything that denotes "Bird-Kote".

Ok wicked, I think that birdseed would be really easy to get. I don't know of any feed stores around my place but a lot of pet stores around. Perhaps petcetera might have some rye as well but i'm sure they have a load of birdseed for cheap so I'll go pick up a 40 pounder....of birdseed. Second question. I have a ton of 1/2 pint jars from when i did cakes. Would those be good to use for grain or should i look into getting some larger jars for grain. I've heard of a lot of people using quart jars. Is that what I'd be wanting?

i wouldn't say it irrelivent i wouldn't bother with 100% sunflowr seeds ahah. where i get my seed theres two kinds ones with tons of sunflour one will less but still some. i got with less beucase that has more millot and other shit. sunflowr seeds just don't have as many nutes per volume. not worth taking out but if i can get less for teh same price i don't see why i wouldn't.

no you dont want the 1/2 ones,
You could also look in to myco-bags, I love them, but there not for everyone.

In the spirit of disagreement, I use Pennington's with Bird Kote and have been for years. I steep the seed for an hour and rinse it well. Never had a problem.

I've had nothing but failure with Pennington's WBS. I can only contribute the application of Bird-Kote. Maybe it's my climate, but that is the only seed that gives me problems. Glad to see it's working for you FooMan.
