Abesolute Terror

Thats what I felt this weekend. I don't know how else to describe it. Let me set up the weekend for you... thursday through sunday an organization that I'm part of had a bunch of events, which culminated on sunday with a memorial golf tourney. The entire weekend I'd been having bad luck. Friday night I got pulled over by some nosy cops who had it stuck in their head that I'd been drinking even though I was completely sober. I got breathalyzed 3 times, and then one of my idiotic (and underage) passengers admitted that she had had a beer in the morning. That was all the cops needed to hear, and they started questioning me about providing to minors. All in all, the officers tried everything they could to get into my car (hooray for the 4th amendment!), and an hour later finally left me go.
Then the next day I happened to visit a friends house, and their house got busted. Luckily nothing bad came from either of these - but it sets up what happened sunday.
One of my friends got to be the chair for the whole sequence of events from thursday through sunday, and he did one hell of a job. I was in his shoes last year, so i know it wreaks physical and mental hell on you. So, sunday evening rolls around, he's abesolutely exhausted, and I happen to have 2 wonderfully full baggies of Maui Wowie that a friend was able to procure for me. We enjoy some smoke, and go back upstairs to watch some TV. About 20 minutes later he comes into the room shaking like a leaf.
The first words out of his mouth - "what was in that shit?" I'm confused at this point.. nothing was in it, it was just very good bud. So we ask him whats up... he started getting extremely short on breath, his muscles were twitching, his heart was pounding so hard that I thought he was going to have a stroke. He thought he was having a heart attack. He asked to go to the hospital, and we took him. He was fine up until he smoked, and then everything went haywire.
At this point I'm abesolutely terrified. There I am, sitting in a hospital lobby with a few G's of extremely kind bud in my pocket, and a friend who thinks hes having a heart attack being admitted into the emergency room. I just kept thinking, "what if it was because of the bud..." etc. My heart started beating so damn hard.. I was terrified for him. I knew if it was because of it, there would be no way I would ever forgive myself. On top of that, the fact that his eyes were bloodshot, and we both reeked like smoke, made me wonder if any second the gestapo would come walking in, looking for the kids who had weed. Especially after running into cops twice in the past two days beforehand, I figured that the 3rd time was gonna be the kicker. I thought that I'd been getting omens and I was too stupid to realize it.
Thankfully, we eventually heard back from the nurses... he had had a severe anxiety attack, brought on by exhaustion (he hadn't slept the night before), and dehydration (from being on the golf course the entire day).
It was by far, one of the scariest experiences of my life, let alone stoned. But everything worked out alright. Just remember to take care of yourself before you smoke guys. Don't treat your body like crap and then try to expand your mind.

In hindsight it might have been better to leave the weed at whatever house you were smoking.

Yeah.. we were trying to think of someplace safe to throw it, but I figured that the inside pocket of my jeans was as safe as a house since either way a warrant is needed.
To be honest though, we were more worried about getting him to the hospital... I'll take a year or two of probation for posession if it saves my friend's life, you know?

i find this applies to any psychedelic, when i trip and am severely tired i usually end up tripping balls! being mentally tired i think magnifies the effect of whatever psychedelic u ingest. good job being a good friend though man that is what counts "ill take a year or two of porbation for poessesion if it saves my friend's life, you know?"-- you are the man, a lot of poeple would not do that. peace and love brother

Fantastic story, well told. I have a bit of a tale about some unruly police.
A friend of mine was driving home with his girlfriend. They are both legal drinking age and he had had a few. He wasn't tanked, but he shouldn't have been driving. So he wasn't. Like the responsible guy he is, he got his girlfriend to pick him up and drive him home. The police stopped them, and did the breathalyser. His girlfriend tested absolutely sober, and of course he didn't. However, for some reason the police felt it necessary that he should walk home, even though he had not been driving and was being totally safe. On the way home he got punched in the back of the head by a drunk, who in turn ended up having his jaw broken, because my buddy was not in a good mood.
You don't fuck with the cops around here, they fuck with you.
Messed up, man.

As ridiculous as it sounds, the cops here are absolute gods. And I'm just about positive they're all crooked.
That's what you get in a backwater town controlled by gangs and drugs I guess.

Strangely enough i have had a heart spasm very similar to that not too long ago after smoking a fat bowl of almost powder-like keef(mostly crystals and red hairs) that i scrapped up from the bottom of my nug box. not only was my heart beating faster than when im tripping, it was pounding against my chest so hard that it was painful. it was very late and the thought of having to go to the hospital did cross my mind alot but i tried to ignore it. Afterwards i just figured the keef gave a different effect on me, but i've never heard of that happening from just smoking good solid nugs

Yeah, something very similar to that happened to me. I'm a graduate student in mathematics, so I'm under a lot of stress. At the end of last semester, I had just finished off this bitchin' quantum mechanics final, which came after a final in an abstract algebra course, which came after a final in a numerical analysis course. I hadn't slept much or eaten in a week, and went over to a friend's house to smoke some.
The thing that happened to your friend? That exact same thing happened to me, I thought I was going to die, passed out, and then woke up at 5am with the worst headache ever.
So your advice -- it's good.

That would be the main reason why I gave up smoking pot. It became a gamble every time I smoked. I just got sick of the stress regarding whether or not it was going to happen or not. My nervous system is sensitive as it is, normally smoking pot makes my heart race like crazy. This is what brings on the full blown panic attacks.. just like you described your friend.
The attacks are harmless, though. For your and your friends info.
