i am just about to start my second grow this week and need to finish my glove box so that i can make my syringes. just need to know what kind of gloves are best and where can i get them?? also my glove box is made with a computer fan and a 3M dust mask, is it OK that the lid is not airtight since it has a constant flow of "fresh" air entering the box? the process that i am following for making my syringes goes like this. PC shot glasses (one for each syringe) wrapped in tin foil. also PC syringes filled with spring water with a drop of jet dry needles pointing up with syringe caps separate. then load into glove box that had been sprayed with Lysol and oust. sound good?? if not what changes should i make???

Uh, to have an effective flowhood you'll need a HEPA filter, not a 3M dust mask. You can just seal the whole thing and spray the shit out of it. And any rubber gloves will do. The longer they are the better so you can move around more easily.

I use the long yellow gloves and take shopping bags and extend them.
you can fold it in near the gloves to create like a cone of baggie.
ahh....I'm too buzzed sorry.
um...
yeah, the long yellow ones plus plastic bag extensions for maximum movement. You should be able to easily reach every corner.

First, shut off that silly fan and seal the hole back up. A dust mask will do absolutely NOTHING to stop contaminants from entering your work area, and the fan will pump them in under pressure. Glove boxes work on the principle of still air, not moving air.
All you need to do is cut holes large enough for your arms to fit through with a semi-snug fit. Just wear latex gloves and wipe them down with alcohol before beginning work. It's not necessary to find expensive long gloves for a tight seal.
Remember, all you're trying to do is have a small area with no wind currents so you can do inoculations. The glovebox doesn't have to be totally sealed up, and it need not be sterile. Simply wash it out with soap and water and use. Be sure to spray the air in the room outside the box with oust, and shut off any fans in the room before using the glovebox. RR

i agree with RR. i don't have a fully sealed glovebox. I just clean it nicley, wash my hands with antibaterial disinfectant cream up to the elbows, wear nitrile gloves, and go to work. I've never had a contam while using it, and i've done grain to grain, multispore, casings, and LCs. I am a firm beleiver in the still air theory.

good call, someone has a HEPA running full time in their work room and works in a glove box. never even thought to turn the hepa off before glovebox work. that thing can move a lot of air.

You don't even need gloves if your hands and arms are clean enough, just spray yourself down with 70% isopropyl alcohol and wait a min
