How to incubate about 56 jars.....
    #5630320 - 05/14/06 09:51 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

the temperature fluctates too much between the jars stacked on top compared to the ones on the bottom. Either the bottom gets too warm or the top gets too cold. Do I really have to get another setup?

I use an open shelf at room temperature. In fact, I don't even own an incubator. It's not necessary. If you're comfortable in a t-shirt, your jars will colonize just fine.

with that many jars its hard to get them all finishing colonization at the same time, regardless of temp difference...

if its really important to you to fruit them all at once, store the fully colonized ones in the fridge to stall mycellium age until the slower ones catch up.

My jars just sit on the floor next to my couch. Sometime I got the window open so it gets a bti chilly, sometime its hot up here caz its an attic room. But I get full colonization on most of em in 8-14 days. So I think an incubator is a waste of space and money.

Maybe he plans on casing them after full colonization.

Ditto, I actually have mine sitting on my desk in my room. Only a few Qt jars but their doing great. Im curious how much it really matters to have them in the dark while incubating? They're not going to fruit until they're ready and i'll probably have them cased by then. Otherwise, pick of any pins and then case..

you could always rig up some small fan, like a computer case fan, to circulate the warm air at the bottom of the tub. maybe put all the jars on a grill or something and have the fan inbetween the heat source and the jars. refer to lame attempt at ASCII explanation

If you use grain next time like WBS or rye concder that 1 qt is 4 1/2 pints. I think that will speed up w/ your TiT, that and using an LC.

PF kinda seems like a PITA if your only going to spawn to hpoo

GL though

your room might be 76, but inside that tub is different. Unless that tub is a T.i.t, then it'll be colder inside that tub, than outside.

like rr said just keep em out in the open, (if it's ok with any passer by's)

i have an entire room set to 82-83 with a pretty big shelf full of jars. light that quick doesn't cause invtro, and you can check on am all at a glance. (this is all still work in progress for me.)
